  5. it's not #medaka or plants in terms of weekly income, but 400€ for 3 months of rearing ~50 #angelfish and ~50 #ancistrus to sellable size with zero effort isn't bad at all as far as this experiment goes (one 230l #aquarium only). break that down in a year assuming the fish breed as actively as they have, and it's roughly 1600€. enough to cover pretty much all #fishhobby expenses!

I plan to setup another large tank with #sterbai, #neocaridina, and #CPD. With #javamoss and #sessifilora and #53b!

  8. finally! it just took a year! +perfect timing! i'm in the middle of retooling my hobby. getting rid of everything except:

    - #angelfish pair (230l tank)
    - #kribs pair (54l tank)
    - #bettas (6x 43l breeder tanks)
    - #guppies (3x 110l tanks)
    - #CPD (54l tank)

as well as #ancistrus, #neocaridina and #aquariumplants, to maximize gains per tank. these are all the best to breed for trade- always in demand. good prices. only missing #medaka and #espei. no space tho.

  12. I really enjoy the pattern some #whiteclouds develop after a short time outside. I think in terms of doing the #minipond hobby, this species has much greater potential than #medaka.

Many of the traits you see in medaka comes from 300 years worth of development while #wcmm have only been explored as a #pondfish for maybe 10-15 years. But in terms of desired qualities, #tanichthys hits pretty much every single note unlike the many drawbacks of medaka.

Anyone doing miniponds should try them!

  14. Last week I donated the pond fish (#medaka, #whiteclouds, and #notropis), today I donated the last batch of the tropical microfish (#sundadanio, #tetras) project. All that's left at home now are #guppies, #angelfish, #ancistrus, keyhole #cichlids, #corydoras and the old #kuhli loaches.

i'm not getting more corys or loaches; but they aren't disturbing any fish or eating fry so they get to stay.

will consolidate to just guppies, ancistrus, and #shrimp (neos) going forward. and my rare #plants :)

  16. Medaka doesn't stand a chance 😅
And not because of these moments 🤣

  17. I know I said no more #medaka #メダカ. It just doesn't work well in our tap water and I hate the egg collection process in a planted #aquarium. But after some deliberation we're going to be keeping the last remaining group permanently outdoor in a heated #pond. If they don't survive next winter, then that will be that (though in theory they should do fine).

These are the lines we have left:

  18. I must have tried a million times to take a good closeup of Ouhi ( 王妃 ). They are so hard to get right! Unfortunately I couldn't get a good capture (again) with the macro, so this will have to do!

  19. For the past 3 months since dropping #medaka, I've been trying several different species, and I think I have finally settled on a favorite: #endlers. They have proven to be incredibly hardy, productive, healthy and beautiful. They remind me so much of #wcmm in form of care and ease of breeding in all aspects (except cold hardiness).

As secondary focus, I'll be heavily invested in WCMM for my pond hobby.

  21. Here are two short videos of the same specimen.

Even if it's not a spotted bicolor, if I can develop a fixed pattern of a blue and gold color profile, that's perhaps even better than a buchi type approach considering its inherent instability. So this is a very interesting specimen for my pursuit of a " Sweden Kabuki " line.

I hope it will yield good results in the end.

  23. Close up of the specimen with full taigaikou. When looking at it up close it appears it does not have a bicolor base body color but rather the taigaikou scales are more transparent in certain areas giving it a golden hue.

  25. these are very interesting culls from japan blue. they have bicolor blue and gold. basically, if i can refine them into a full taigaikou line; i'd have a sueden (#sweden) #medaka !

i know i said i quit them, but i still have the fry group left of a few assorted strains. dominantly japan blue, but a few others as well.

and these culls definitely hold my curiosity. i might end up keeping japan blue and these culls around a while longer!

  28. The type of medaka strain that only finds a home with a particular kind of aquarist 😅
What makes them unique is the slight hint of yellow in their fins and on top of their heads, and a barely noticable checkered white dot on each scale that can only be viewed up close.

  29. Aurora Ki is my personal favorite among the lame strains I keep ☺️

  30. My youkou plan is going off the rail! The 'correct' form is a steel colored miyuki with a yellow base-colored head. Instead, I'll be working on two different directions; one steel tekkamen, and one platinum tekkamen. just because they look way better imo 😉

    Youkou(妖光) = Magical Light
Miyuki(みゆき) = no translation but could be interpreted as 'beautiful snow'.
Tekkamen(鉄仮面) = Iron Mask = miyuki stretching over the head (high grade miyuki, medium grade youkou).
