Daily shrimp insight: Caridina shrimp are more sensitive than Neocaridina, so acclimate them slowly. Drip acclimation over an hour or two lets them adjust to your water gently, which makes a real difference in how well a new colony settles in.

Pumpkin orange shrimp hold their deep colour best in a mature, stable tank. If one hides and skips a meal for a day, look for a shed shell before you worry. Moulting is how they grow, and lying low right before and after is normal. Keep GH in a healthy range so the new shell hardens properly.
Most shrimp losses in new tanks trace back to overfeeding, not underfeeding. Neocaridina and Caridina spend their days grazing biofilm off every surface, so the tank itself is always feeding them. Offer a small portion, and if anything is left after a couple of hours, feed less next time.
New shrimp arriving today? Slow down.
Drip acclimation is the difference between a colony that settles in and one that's gone by morning. Float the container to match temperature, then drip your tank water in over 1–2 hours until the volume at least doubles.
Shrimp that just travelled to your door have had a long trip. Two patient hours now beats a week of losses.
Shrimpkeeping tip: your shrimp's main food source is already in the tank. They graze biofilm all day — the invisible layer on leaves, wood, and glass.
So feed tiny amounts. If food is still sitting there after a couple of hours, you're feeding too much. A slightly "hungry" tank is a healthy tank.

Tip of the day: don't net out that 'dead shrimp.' If it's hollow and see-through, it's a molt — your shrimp slipped out of it and is hiding somewhere quiet. Leave the shell in the tank. They'll graze on it for days to take the minerals back. Growing a new exoskeleton is hungry work.

it's not #medaka or plants in terms of weekly income, but 400€ for 3 months of rearing ~50 #angelfish and ~50 #ancistrus to sellable size with zero effort isn't bad at all as far as this experiment goes (one 230l #aquarium only). break that down in a year assuming the fish breed as actively as they have, and it's roughly 1600€. enough to cover pretty much all #fishhobby expenses!

I know that anything with aquarium on it costs more, but the aquarium tax for snowflake food is ridiculous. I've been keeping shrimp for less than a year, so maybe other shrimp keepers already know about this cheap alternative to snowflake food, but in case you didn't -
After watching some YT shrimp keeper channels, I've been feeding my neocaridina colony snowflake food a couple of times a week. They like it and I was almost out, so I was looking at the bag and realized it only has one ingredient - soy hulls. I paid $12 for 3 1/2 ounces of snowflake food.
I thought there must be a cheaper source, so I looked online and found soy hull pellets for mushroom cultivation were 10 pounds for $20. The pellets are exactly the same size as the ones in the snowflake food bag, and my colony eats them just as eagerly.
Snowflake food: $3.70 an ounce.
Bulk organic soybean husks: $0.13 an ounce. 28x cheaper.

Got asked about my #neocaridina #aquarium so I wrote a blog post about setting up a planted #nanotank for shrimp.
Managed to get a picture of two baby shrimp from the latest clutch in my 5 gallon tank. I'm pretty happy that I've already had two clutches since the tank has only been running for three months.
The focus isn't as sharp as I'd like, I really need to get a macro lens for my phone. Any recommendations?

So far my 5 gallon #shrimptank #aquarium only has a brand new #neocaridina colony, a #nerite and some inevitable bladder snails, livestock-wise.
I want to add fish that are shrimp-friendly and small enough to be happy in a #nanotank. Thinking maybe Ember Tetras or Dwarf Rasboras. I think Neons would be too big, but would love advice from people with more experience.
Whatever I add, I'm going to wait until after I see some shrimplets.
Finally added some #neocaridina #shrimp to my new 5 gallon #aquarium. It's been cycling for six weeks, water parameters have looked good for a couple weeks, it's about time 🙂 🦐

몇 주 전에 새우 사냥하고 다 못 삼켜서 사흘 째 입 벌리고 있길래 핀셋으로 겨우 뽑아줬다. 입 찢어저셔 하루를 입 못 닫더라.
이렇게 친구와 대화했는데 지금 보니...... 입에 뭔가 물었다. 또 새우를...... 새우가 살아 있네.
와. 라코비 새우 사냥하는 구나.
방금 집에 돌아와서 뚜껑 열고 물멍 시작했는데, 갑자기 암컷이 금세 쏜살같이 달리더니 수조 밖 내 앞으로 점프했다.
그런데 입에 뭔가를 물고 있지 싶어 살펴보니 새우가 머리가 약간만 나와 있네. 먹을 수 있는 크기는 맞나? 먹고서 소화불량으로 하직하지는 않겠지?
어쩐지 새우가 물고기에게서 도망치다 점프사 하는 거 외에도 수가 줄어드는 느낌이더라니.
역시 물고기들은 같이 살다가도 만만해지면 입에 넣어보네. 소시오패스들 맞나보다.
