  1. Finally got around actually posting the #WCMM article I wrote in like 2022 lol.

I never felt like it was finished. Always needing more stuff stuffed into it, more photos, etc. But I can't just let it sit for another 3 years in my archive doing nothing when it's fully functional for anyone interested in knowing more about keeping white cloud mountain minnows in patio ponds.

  5. I really enjoy the pattern some #whiteclouds develop after a short time outside. I think in terms of doing the #minipond hobby, this species has much greater potential than #medaka.

Many of the traits you see in medaka comes from 300 years worth of development while #wcmm have only been explored as a #pondfish for maybe 10-15 years. But in terms of desired qualities, #tanichthys hits pretty much every single note unlike the many drawbacks of medaka.

Anyone doing miniponds should try them!

  8. For the past 3 months since dropping #medaka, I've been trying several different species, and I think I have finally settled on a favorite: #endlers. They have proven to be incredibly hardy, productive, healthy and beautiful. They remind me so much of #wcmm in form of care and ease of breeding in all aspects (except cold hardiness).

As secondary focus, I'll be heavily invested in WCMM for my pond hobby.

  13. Had a bit of misfortune with my fry groups. Might have gotten too cold for them (I suspect it dropped to around 1° - no heater with the frys). Only have 6 left in their tanks. Thankfully there are a couple of fry already with the adult pairs. Might just let them grow up with their parents.

Anyway, these are my main breeders of each strain (still missing gold longfin, contemplating breeding my own; we'll see if glaser has more in spring).

  14. I've been running some breeding experiments for my #WCMM through the month. Using 5x45L #aquarium at 18°C and airstones. fed dr. bassleer daily.

    results:

    24x 1:1 mature with net box : 0 fry
    12x 1:1 mature with net box : 20 fry
    3x 1:2 mature in pair setup : 66 fry
12x 1:1 young adults with net box : 32 fry
2x 1:1 young adults in pair setup : 44 fry

noted: some females in the mature group net box were egg-bound and young adults tend to eat their own fry. which may have impacted results.

  15. freshly hatched white cloud mountain minnows chillin' on the aquarium glass together with some microscopic worms (that i had no idea was present until this closeup footage) 😎

  16. Finally got around to buy more nets! Basically, the WCMM fry will seek refuge in the nets so I can collect fry each day. Been doing it this way for a year or so because my selected pairs seldom produces fry unless I have a large group and as large groups they predate on their own fry but I've only had one box until now. With this setup, I can collect between 1 and 30 fry each day per breeding group and raise the fry in separate rearing tanks.

  17. this should save me some on the electricity bills 😅

been running heaters that can't be set below 22°C for a few days - ever since the water temperature dropped down to 3°C in the WCMM tanks and they went down to the bottom, looking very unhappy. 22°C is costly and expensive (especially here in europe) so hopefully this setup will be a good compromise 😁

  18. Putting together a red pair of WCMM (only have one red female) let's see what happens!
