  5. New thing here. Police of Cambridgeshire is soliciting crime reports via QR codes leading to forms.office.com. From the solid hardware used I deduce it's genuine, which of course does not negate that it's a bad cyber security practice to use unsupervised QR codes for anything serious. Using forms.office.com instead of own domain is a mistake as well. If someone replaces QR codes on these posters it's going to be hard to spot.

  6. Bus travel is free, as bullshits to us a city bus company Stagecoach which takes 3 GBP for a single 4-miles fare and skips maybe half of scheduled rides.

  13. Wow, that's messed up, expensive trainings about how to be a friend. From a leading expert, no less. But then many people in in my opinion are actually messed up in that they are indifferent to human beings around them and can't into friendship.

  15. #CambridgeUK people might like to know that the busway path is closed in Histon (I assume as far as Orchard Park). The sign said from 9th January for 3 days. I do wish the Council was better at communication about this :-/

  17. Opposite, the moon shines among the treetops lining and crisscrossing over the river Cam. Nature slumbers, awaiting Spring.

  18. Strongly moonlit landscapes right now in the Cambridgeshire. Face south and, under the nearly full moon, you'll see Canis Major, to the right below Orion there's Rygel, to the left below Jupiter is Arcturus. Giant stars, clearly visible even within the city. The night is freezing cold and the air as clear as it gets.

This #chromolithography example shows the inside of the chapel St. John’s College Cambridge. This picture was made around 1840; later, in 1860, the chapel was demolished & replaced with a Victorian Gothic Revival thing by Sir Gilbert Scott.

At least six colours here i think, so 6 plates, although sometimes they overprinted to get mixed colours.

What a beautiful space. Reminds me of the Mendel center in Brno, Czech Republic, nowadays used as a conference center.

In our college, Pembroke, we've refurbished a former United Reform Church into a 220-seat auditorium. A fantastic venue for music concerts and also used daily during term time for lectures, and as a conference site. In the bell tower, we've built a rock climbing gym – just opened this September 2025.

A great use of a great space made of wood and stone, with wonderful acoustics. The college graciously refurbished the organ and installed a grand piano too.

The best time to find out you've got the beginnings of a cold is certainly not a few hundred metres into a 10K run, when you suddenly find it difficult to breath.

I struggled to my finish in 53:47 in Grantchester this morning, stopping after 2K to do my inhaler. Afterwards, a guy said to me he'd been following me most of the way and I was really pushing it, which helped him get his PB. Different strokes for different folks!

  28. CW: River Cam, UKpol

"City councillor Elliot Tong (Green, Abbey) said: “The River Cam is currently having an existential crisis. Without urgent action, both Jesus Lock island and Baits Bite Lock island will fail. This could significantly lower the water level and expose residents to centuries of filth that has sunk to the bottom of the river after being dumped there."
He put forward a motion to the full council on 24 July calling it to write to the secretary of state now explaining the need for funding for the repairs. His motion also proposed that responsibility for overseeing the River Cam should be transferred to any future unitary authority that covers Cambridge following the planned local government reorganisation.
But an amendment to the motion was put forward by Cllr Martin Smart (Lab, King’s Hedges), removing these points."

  31. Sixth: "To bee or not to bee", where we mourn the now departed hairy-footed flower bees and the many species of mining bees – see you next Spring –, and welcome a whole new range of bees, awoken at the right time to feast on the pink lampwick, bright yellow fear-leaf yarrow, and deep pink Deutzia bushes. The rooster includes mason bees, leaf-cutter bees, sweat bees, armoured-resin bees, masked bees, and the spectacular European woolcarder bee. The last two kinds are putting in quite the territorial control and mating show.
