Thinking of civil rights leaders today & their allies. I was watching a clip of The Dave Brubeck Quartet with my 92 year old FIL. He asked who the bassist was so I looked him up. It's Eugene Wright, #Brubeck was a strong supporter of his. When he found out that the producers intended to keep Wright off-camera he canceled a TV show. Jan 1960, he canceled a 25-date #Jazz tour of colleges in the American South because 22 of the schools refused to allow Wright to perform. https://youtu.be/qNqzIy-yFwA

Net begonnen aan de sax solo van Take Five (in pianobewerking dus). Swingt nog niet maar ik hoor waar het heen gaat! En de linkerhand wordt langzaam maar gestaag steeds comfortabeler in de springerige baslijn en dat is nodig, want die rechterhand heeft een solide basis nodig. Het is vast nog niet om aan te horen maar wel heel lekker om te spelen. 😎 #brubeck #jazz #piano

Bruckbeck is the reason I fell in love with Jazz, both as a listener as well as a player.
His compositions are beautiful to listen to and challenging but fun to play.
I owe him a lot for what defines me as a musician playing all kinds of genres.
I was lucky enough to see him live although unfortunately I am not old enough to also have seen Paul Desmond live whom I admire equally.

And it probably says other things about me that my first recent purchase of #vinyl to be played on my new Sound Burger was a re-release of an old favorite.
Dave Brubeck and the Quartet made a significant impact on my taste and interest in music.
Mom owned a copy of the original Time Out album and I spent many an afternoon borrowing it.
I've had it on cassette and CD, but never on vinyl.
Originals are a bit pricey, and I may yet find one. But in the meantime, I found a re-release that will do me just fine for now. and the LP is pressed in clear blue!

I wanted to share an album I recently discovered, Dave Digs Disney. I am trying to collect #Jazz #CDs from the 80s and 90s that have better or more traditional mixing and mastering than what's on streaming. When I saw the purple border my attention was piqued. In almost every conversation of Mile's Davis masters one of these purple border Columbia Jazz Masterpiece CDs always come up as one of the best. I like #Brubeck, I like #Disney, It was an easy impulse buy. let me tell you, It's great.
