  1. what the fuck is "kinsta.cloud" and why is it blocking me

  2. My kid saw a Captcha the first time.

    K: „what’s that?“
Me: „We need to prove, that we are not robots“
    K: „nobody is a robot“

Yup, that’s where we are now.

  3. Not impressed with the “pay us or accept that we will ignore your right to deny tracking” that is becoming pervasive around the web. I will not be held to ransom, your business model is broken and I will not visit your site again. #Enshitification #BrokenWeb #Privacy

  4. I so wanted to read this Wired-article, but couldn’t because of constant layout shifts on my poor internet connection when the ads were trying to load. #brokenweb

  5. This is just crazy how bad web search is. I've been listening to this track open.spotify.com/track/24N7BXY Chantal Perrier-Layec who plays Rameau. It's a really nice performance. Wanted to learn more about her. Nothing in Google apart from links to tracks. Nothing in DeepSeek. Even in @duckduckgo I'm on page 9 before I can find this astrigantreassiandedeyan.com/a She done several disks... #brokenweb

  6. | might be done trying to post my photos online. :-(
For the last year I have been trying to establish a sensible workflow to post to my Wordpress blog and Mastodon, with proper alt text and a working lightbox. The latest show stopper is poorly functioning lightbox, which has been, along with WP's horrible handling of images in general, the bane of my existence for along time.
So I'm done trying, for now at least. :-(

  7. WTF Microsoft? This is wrong on so many levels...
Whenever I have to touch stuff from that company, for work reasons, I have a wtf moment.

Not only are they pushing unrequested generative text at me, they place it above the answer content created by idiots who put an effort into helping out on their website for free. But it gets better (\s)! About 50% of the generated text is irrelevant bullshit (highlighted). #speechless

  8. DuckDuckGo is so broken by SEO. Searching for a website has become impossible, it will always point to aggregator and directory sites, burying the actual official website URL. It can’t be too hard to search for URL with matching words first and then cross reference with all the aggregator shit results for legitimacy. Then rate accordingly, right?

  10. I don’t know what the ad was supposed to be here but I’m fairly sure that the disclaimer is in bad faith.

Mostly because I can read it even though the ad didn’t load.

  11. Remember when ecommerce wasn't full of upsells ("get the deluxe version that is exactly the same other than a special colour"), tricks ("spin the wheel!"), annoying nudges ("subscribe to our mailing list to get 10% off but we'll only send it in 2 weeks"), scams ("you definitely need this 2-day express shipping that costs 50% of your subtotal even though when you don't choose it we'll still deliver it in 2 days"), and vendors selling your information to other companies? That was cool.

  12. Show me a person who thinks that it's a successful strategy to interrupt someone 20 seconds into reading your content to nudge a sales prompt popover into their eyeballs, and I'll show you a person who is measuring wrong.

  13. I'd really love a feature of the modern web where I could opt out of a forced session deauthentication while I'm *actually* in the middle of doing work.

After a time of inactivity? I'd get that. But please not while I'm in the middle of typing/clicking through a multi-step process.

I'm looking at you Google Docs and Amazon AWS Console.

  14. This is try number 3 of failing to get a major brand website to work today.

    1) old account; couldn't log in anymore; resets didn't seem to work; errors
    2) forced me into a loop to get me to sign up for an additional account service but that service wouldn't accept my "state" (I don't have a state; certainly not a listed US state) and there was no country selector
    3) See image

All I want to to do is tell them to leave the $15 package without interrupting my meetings for a signature.

  15. Ah yes, yet another day of

"I only use ad/tracker blockers because the web became pretty much unusable without them"

    vs

"this button on the site doesn't work because the over-employed developer made it JavaScript only and that whole thing is bound by a flaky document-ready event that crashes out if anything ever fails (such as a invasivetracker.js not loading)"

This situation is getting worse, not better.

  16. I was just linked to a page for a product that costs $9000 (USD) and there's a cookie banner that's taking up a full third of my viewport. The dismiss buttons don't work.

I am so sad that we've (collectively) let this kind of thing happen to our beloved web.

  17. On #YouTube the keyboard shortcut (#accessibility) for "back" doesn't seem to work for me if I'm looking at a "Shorts" video. Almost certain this worked just fine last week. It behaves as expected on normal videos.

I bet they think they're *nudging* me to "watch more shorts" but really they're nudging me to "never click on shorts videos because the UI will break" which I suspect is the opposite of the intent.

    So… don't do that please.

  18. Not a good sign for your privacy policy: "Oh no! Our server is not responding, try refreshing the page or coming back in a bit."

And just imagine it's due to JavaScript dependencies because yes, your privacy policy depends on 3rd party JavaScript Patreon :(

  19. #funkwhale seems to have put quite a bit of effort in making it hard to download content.

    "interesting".
