  1. Got myself a (rental) #bike, specifically a Momentum Voya E+, which is an e-bike, although not very much so (the maximum range, which might even be inflated, seems to be based on eco mode which doesn't give a lot of assist). And yes, I've been biking to work (as required...), now every day is leg day. It ain't easy but man needs exercise...

Exactly. Why can't we have this?" ~hotmonday

  5. In a surprise to myself, we rode about a mile and a half on the bikes today! We're about half a mile from a train station so we rode there and then rode around the lot for a bit before riding home. There was one bit of hill I hated deeply but I survived!

What are the good bike hashtags?

Knowing people will answer this question is one of my very favorite things about this place.

  7. Slowly getting to the point where I'm happy with the Eddy Merckx Strada OS bike project.

New alu Fulcrum racing 4 wheels work well on this frame. They balance aero with weight nicely, although dedicated climbing wheels might be something I'll look into.

Final thing will probably be Ritchey Butano handle bars, replacing the Ergomax setup, which is a bit too tall and wide.

  9. I did bike things this evening! My tires were SUPER flat (one was at 10 lol) and my front brake was...wonky. Husband mostly fixed them while I sort of helped and found the right hex wrench (with a fancy handle!).

She could definitely still use a full how's yer mum onceover, but for now? She's perfect. Now waiting on husband to get one so we can toodle around together.

Also ordered a basket and bell! #Bikestodon lol what are the appropriate HTs here for bike stuff?

  13. Always surprised to read these glowing reviews, and their focus on weight. Only to notice that my 40 year old steel road bike is only 200gr heavier than the entry level bike (and I could probably get there if I upgrade my cockpit and seat post to carbon). 🤷‍♂️

  15. This is why I have hope for the US. You see politics infiltrate in other discussions and topics. You see this in Ars Technica and Wired coverage, but also this one in the bikepacking community. People don't let this slide anymore. For many this isn't just news anymore, this is personal.

  16. It turns out it was all a waste of paper and a waste of my time taking part in the consultation. The council now say regarding the Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council Cycling Strategy: "Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, as a district local authority, has no responsibility for cycling strategy and,
therefore, does not hold the information requested."

  21. #Basingstoke Borough Council's 2016 Cycling Strategy had a target to double cycle trips to work over 10 years. I should probably contact them to ask how that's going given that between it and the subsequent LCWIP, nothing really has changed in terms of producing joined-up high quality cycling infrastructure.

The difference? Safe and connected bicycle infrastructure.

  29. Triplets of Belleville

🎬 watched Les Triplettes de Belleville (2003)

Released in USA as Triplets of Belleville, and I’m amused to see in UK and Ireland as a third title Belleville Rendez-vous.

As two film enthusiasts living in Los Angeles, my partner and I do not watch many together at home. We make dates to visit theaters, and share scenes while in motion during monday night fort90 film clubs. Sitting down to enjoy our a modest projected setup and sorting out the audio was a special event and a treat to enjoy in itself.

First impressions were such fun on a striking and enchanting ride into a surreal and groovy opening scene. The visual and sound design continued to surprise and delight up to the final car chase scene, where the story lost me in an aversion to excessive gunfire and pointlessly violent car chase. The experience overall far surpassed expectations and is one of the most unique animations I’ve enjoyed in a long time!

It has now been a few weeks since watching and the visual experience stuck with me, especially the repeat views from in front of the lead son rocking back and forth on his bicycle. While searching today for loops of these views, I was also reminded how catchy and happy the overall musical themes are from the triplet stars themselves.

The elder triplets finding and adopting the mother and dog through shared music and frog soup are such a sweet story of tenderness and discovered love between strangers. I found this obscured on first watch between the darkness of the mafia kidnappings and humans as horses on bikes.

This is definitely worth re-watching as there is so much detail in the animation style and scenes I know I missed. I expect to further enjoy the elder triplets story, and the irony of their household instruments. At 1 hour 22 minutes, it’s a quick and other-worldy trip into animation land I’m so happy to look forward to again.

    Highly recommended for fans Cowboy
Beebop, Tour de France and cycling culture, cityscapes, Miyazaki / Studio Ghibli, and jazzy grooves.

I watched and wrote about this as encouraged by the IndieWeb Movie Club for July, and a personal endeavor to post. Thanks to Mark Sutherland for this month’s suggestion!

  32. One day, the Loop will connect all of Dallas. This community already sees a difference 🚲🚸➰

An aging bridge once connected residents around Pemberton Hill Road from the larger Pleasant Grove community. But that’s changing as improvements attached to the Loop’s 50-mile circuit are being implemented in the neighborhood and offering more recreational options to community members.
