I'm not the only, and definitely not the first one to (re)consider the #filesystem for #database use.
The #BeFS documentation (from #HaikuOS website) clearly states - and does that - already (2004):
> "[key/value metadata attributes] add considerable power to a file system and endow the file system with many of the features normally associated with a database."

@rl_dane #Haiku doesn't work correctly with [USB] floppy drives (understandably), so I had to script my own tar/zip -based "filesystem".
The scripts essentially use the floppies as a tape archive (via tar), and store a .zip in the archive. I needed to have the zip layer, since #BeFS 's attributes wouldn't store in via tar, but would via zip. -

@lexknowssystems @randomgeek Using #BeMail and tagging MP3s right in the desktop Tracker because of BFS’ (now #BeFS) extended attributes was the shit. I wish #Apple would enable the same thing with #macOS' #Finder in addition to #Spotlight.
(#HoudahSpot is sometimes a good alternative for files but no longer works for Mail as Apple deprecated Mail Plug-Ins with #Monterey in 2021 and killed them in 2023's #Sonoma in favor of Mail App Extensions: https://mjtsai.com/blog/2023/06/14/rip-apple-mail-plug-ins/)
