  1. This might be a useful Obsidian tip. I tried Obsidian (again!) last year but I just couldn’t walk away from Bear because it’s so good. (Bear is macOS only but they did add web access last year.)

“I discovered Obsidian's core plugin "File recovery". Enabled by default, it saves the state of your files every five minutes and keeps that history for a whole week!”

  3. @tekphloyd #BearNotesApp is awesome. And it works across Watch, iPhone, iPad and Desktop in a consistent fashion. Do love #Obsidian too, but Bear gets the buttery user experience award.

  5. In honor of @mako, who uses only Apple Notes and says this every time I bring up #BearNotesApp, or something similar when I bring up #obsidian as well.

  7. I took a stab at cleaning up my code for BearExporter, a Python script to export all of your Bear notes to Markdown files you can use with Obsidian, read in the terminal, or whatever.

As the old saying goes "it works for me!" but I know it's not exactly great code, but it is available.

I'm not great at Python but I'll try to improve it as time allows.

  9. @flohgro @raycast @drafts Oh! I might start leaning into Drafts more for quick capture on my Apple Watch and as a front to #obsidianmd (which I'm likely to start using more). Will definitely check out your extension.

Have you also considered dabbling with their AI extensions now that it's a thing? There's one for #BearNotesApp that's interesting. Allows you to perform a natural language query against your Bear Notes. Definitely a cool concept.

  11. @amerpie Just came across this one based on a post from @jantzen. I've not tried to tweak the CSS yet, but the baseline capability is simple and likely what you might be interested in.

Do wish someone made a plugin that gave export format options similar to what Bear Notes App offers. That app is so good about allowing you to easily copy text or export files in various formats VERY simply.

    So damned handy.

  13. 🫶 Meet Bear, the Markdown note-taking app that helps you capture and organize your thoughts 🐻‍❄️
MindNode and Bear are a pawfect match 🐾 Use our special shortcut to import your Bear notes into MindNode and turn them into mind maps.

  15. @rafa well it depends on the app!

    Xcode? Fullscreen
    @ivory? floating
#BearNotesApp? tiled to a ⅓ of the screen
#ArcBrowser? tiled to ⅔ of the screen
    @things? floating
#Slack? tiled half to ½ of the screen

  17. @dhanish the short answer is: Yes.

The long answer is: most are annual subscriptions so they “hurt" less — or so I try to convince myself.

    I use:
    - Fantastical + CardHop from @flexibits
    - #BearNotesApp
    - @halide and @obscura
    - @ivory
    - @1password
    - All the streaming services 😭
    - Apple One
    - And of course @glass

Some I consider to be essential, others could be replaced but they offer a clear value to me in each of their categories.

  21. Last night I was writing on #iOS Journal app.

Everything was fine until the text started to become too long.

Keyboard would freeze, device heated up, not a reassuring experience. Which is important when jotting down thoughts.

In contrast, when I switched to the #BearNotesApp the app handled the long text body with absolutely no issues.

One would assume that the #JournalApp would leverage from performance optimizations, being part of the OS.

  22. @nazhamid I'm looking to do the same. And nice app set! 😁 Also, #BearNotesApp for the win. And Gotham Bold and Book from the inspiration of @scottboms's website.

  24. For those using Bear Notes App, they have some lovely new features with their 2.1 update, including a quick open command to search notes and tags.

Also, interestingly, supports importing #obsidian files and also markdown files with attachments generally.

I use both #obsidian and Bear and love both.

  26. @TfTHacker Absolutely. And while I love #Obsidian, #BearNotesApp is also brilliant on mobile and — though I never use it — was a huge fan of Craft’s mobile experience back when. Oh and don’t under estimate the power of Apple Watch for mobile quick capture. Bear and #DraftsApp both excel here.
