    NOTUS, along w/journalists from NYT, 404Media, Haaretz & independent #cybersecurity reporter Brian Krebs, were given access to nearly 2hrs of footage of #AtlasPrivacy using #BabelStreet’s tracking tool, #LocateX.

  2. Earlier this year, #StartUp company #AtlasPrivacy got access to a #mobile #phone-tracking tool used by #law enforcement & US government agencies across the country. The #tracking tool, sold by Virginia-based company #BabelStreet, pulls commercially available #data that #phones beam out through apps. Atlas researchers were looking for #privacy & #security vulnerabilities in the data for sale.

The strongest evidence that #Meta and #X aren’t following their own anti-surveillance policies comes from vendors themselves: #Dataminr (official “partner” of X), #BabelStreet, #Skopenow, #MediaSonar, and ShadowDragon publicly claim that they have access to data from Meta and/or X. Those companies sell their services, data, and products — which appear to operate at extraordinary scale — to police and other gov;t agencies through contracts that can be extremely lucrative.
