@jorijn A combination of yolo and a driving culture that expects motorcycles and mopeds everywhere. Just like the Netherlands where we all bicycle and have a high tolerance and high awareness of bicycle shenenigans.

Because they are heavier and faster than bicycles, e-bike crashes are resulting in more leg fractures, similar to those seen in motorcycle crashes. Fractures were the most common injury requiring hospitalization.

After years riding large touring bikes, lastly a BMW R1200RT (wet), I decided to take things easier and downsized to the darkside, became a "scooterist" with a Yamaha TMAX Tech Max. (Let's ignore the 500cc Piagio MP3 three wheeler tilting scooter that I'd commuted on for a few years).
Hasn't really been a step down.

People ask me what made me such an #ATGATT #motorcycle rider.
Partly, it’s just how I’ve been since I was a kid. I came off plenty of bikes as a teen (and have plenty of scars) to realize that faster travel - more potential to do bad things.
A couple of friends, including @pyoor
came off their bikes, on one occasion when she was on her way to go out with me on the bike.But also, back in 2013, it was reinforced when a guy low sided his friend’s 125cc going around a corner.
He as doing 50. The limit was 30. I was driving what was @amerikate’s brand new Chevrolet Volt. I saw him come around the corner, and as a biker, knew he wasn’t going to make it. I braked hard, mounted the pavement and tried to get out of the way.
The car was already stopped when his bike hit me.
This is the aftermath. He was lucky, but it reinforced in my brain to ATGATT. The next time I got gear, I consciously spent more time making sure it was good gear

@MeanwhileinCanada I once went to a gathering of (gay) motorbikers where two guys showed up with injuries.
The first had the regular kind of accident: invisible to stupid car driver.
It took a while to get the other guys’ story:
He broke multiple vertebrae when a sling on a sex party broke off the ceiling and he dropped to the tiled floor, on his back, with someone in him.
IIRC he was in hospital for a while. There is an #ATGATT joke hidden in this. -
