I'm not sure how I ended up in the crosshairs of the #ASHG vendor spam cannon. I'm not going, nor have I been in over a decade. Unfortunately I had to put an email filter on anything with "ASHG" in the subject/body. The spam is unreal.

It's looking more and more like I'll end up missing #ASHG25 in Boston. I've been to every meeting (excepting digital covid meetings) since 2013.
University cost saving measures are moving toward blocking all professional travel allowances on the change of the fiscal year. 😕
Which would also be the first #ASHG that I've not live tooted since I started doing it. Times they are a changing.

Back when @girlscientist left the DLC committee at #ASHG to join the board, she insidiously convinced me to take over doing interviews for the ASHG Genetically Speaking #podcast.

My job was easy, but hats off to the ASHG staff, mostly Ana Bakke and Erin Konigsdorffer, who put this together, did the scheduling for all the interviews, and edited all the audio. If anything doesn't flow well it was probably my mishandling of directing the interview. All the parts that sound great are them.

Seeking ideas for how to handle the #ASHG meeting this year.
For several years I've live tweeted it. But I don't think I can justify giving any content or daily active user boost to Birdsite. Should I try tooting it? With no algorithm it'll spam the timeline. Old school daily "blog" type roundups? Publish notes to GitHub?
I just don't know.

Genetics is a beautiful 😍 field of science, unfortunately throughout human history it has been misused to justify racism, injustice, discrimination & other harms. I applaud #ASHG for the bravery to look back at the field's and its own history & acknowledge mistakes/omissions made in order to build a better & more equitable future where everyone benefits from the insights of genetics & genomics.🧬

The implementation of polygenic scores holds great promise for personalized medicine but challenges remain if everyone is to benefit.

The American Society of Human Genetics #ASHG along with other major societies has released a report on #Diversity of the #Genomics workforce.
"Across the biomedical field there is a need for expanding diversity of the scientific workforce,” said ASHG President Charles Rotimi, PhD. “The lack of diversity in the workforce impacts scientific innovation at every level along with global competitiveness and the ability to deliver new insights into human disease and health."
