  1. Around 18 to 20km by #bike tonight in Lisbon :=)

    We ended up it in the quarter of #alfama so putting about 40 or more folks riding bikes trough one of the old quarters of #lisbon with some of the narrowest streets, in the middle of the city festivities full of people on the street.
    And we had a few beers at the end :)

    It was fun :)

    The #gps borked a bit. But with the narrow streets full of people, it was expected:

  2. By popular demand, and by that I mean of @devrtz publishing again tracks of my #bike rides in #lisbon 😃
    (Which I have not stopped, but have been forgetting to publish)

    This one was not long. About 15,5 KM But it had some insane surprises like going up the hill to the highest viewpoint in Lisbon (Miradouro Nossa senhora do Monte). And going up hill in the old quarters of Lisbon #Alfama and #mouraria

  4. “Window 15” — A window in a stone wall in the Alfama, Lisbon.

    This is another photograph from our stroll through Lisbon’s Alfama district — the oldest part of the city, and a place of narrow, twisting walkways and steep hills. It is also an area with a history of poverty. Here a window is open to reveal plants growing in pots…continues: gdanmitchell.com/2025/08/14/wi

  5. Alfama Steps” — Cobblestone steps wind between buildings in the Alfama, Lisbon.

    We wandered quite a bit during our May visit to Lisbon this year. (This was part of a 6-week trip that took us to Portugal, Spain, Belgium, and New York City.) When I write “wandered,” I mean this quite literally — we frequently head out with only the vaguest idea of what we’ll explore. In this case, we knew we were headed to the Alfama district, but beyond that we would wing it…continues: gdanmitchell.com/2025/07/20/al

  6. A Lisbon Street” — A narrow, curving street in Alfama, lined with colorful buildings.

    From my limited experience, this feels like a “typical” street of Lisbon’s Alfama district… except that the street is wider than many of the passageways. The lines suggest that it is two lanes wide — though I imagine that when a trolley goes up and down those tracks there isn’t a lot of room for anyone else!…continues: gdanmitchell.com/2025/07/16/a-

  7. “Alfama Street Art” — Detail of street art on a wall in the Alfama district of Lisbon.

    This detail of a bit of Portuguese street art comes from the Alfama district of Lisbon. This is the oldest neighborhood of the city, with tightly spaced buildings and streets so narrow and twisting that vehicles cannot pass. It was (and reputedly still is) a neighborhood where the poor are more likely to live — though one can see a creeping urbanization occurring around the edges…continues: gdanmitchell.com/2025/07/12/al
