  3. 3/3 There's also the procedural mess:

    ❌ delays from the #AIOffice
    ❌ national implementation delays
    #GPAI code of conduct issues
❌ Commission's interpretative guidelines released AFTER bans already entered into force
❌ no guidelines on the AI system definition yet, which will determine which systems fall under the scope of the bans in the first place.

This is terrible for legal certainty, in addition to the #AIAct already falling short of civil society demands to put people's rights first.

  4. The European Commission's #AIOffice must ensure that #HumanRights and #Justice are at the heart of the #AIAct implementation, urge 27 civil society organisations and experts ✊🏾

They also call out various shortcomings of the consultation process that hindered civil society and affected communities from meaningfully making their voices heard 🚨

  5. #EU #AI #AIAct #GPAI #Lobbying #OpenAI #AIOffice: "There is no responsible AI without a responsible regulator. The EU has the tools in its possession. It should act responsibly. The “centre of AI expertise” should not outsource important tasks to scandalous consultancy firms. Responsible AI regulators do not allow OpenAI to write EU rules.

OpenAI helped make AI harms scalable. With able assistance from Microsoft and Google, it will prevent the EU from setting and enforcing strong rules.

The EU AI Office should draft the codes through a multistakeholder process. The process should include industry, especially EU companies developing, fine-tuning or using general purpose AI systems, civil society organisations, and independent scientists. These stakeholders should be involved at every step of the drafting process. Not just at the end.

The process of inviting participants to the drafting process should be transparent to the public. Opaque processes and decisions will not increase public trust in the EU AI Office.

Lack of time is no excuse for not including diverse and essential stakeholders."
