When AI influences decisions involving protection claims or legal status, the question is not only whether the system works.

It’s whether the organization can explain:
• why it was used
• how risks were assessed
• who remains accountable
• what oversight exists

That helps explain why certain migration, asylum, and border-management AI systems are classified as high-risk under the EU AI Act.
