This week, I attended the #AGU22 in Chicago and it was an amazing experience. I gave an oral presentation on my #PhD research on how various #hydrometeorological drivers contribute to the severity of #compound #climate and #weather #extreme #events and their resulting #socioeconomic impacts.
I had some really interesting discussions with other researchers on compound extreme events and got to know more about the research they're doing. I also met some old friends and made some new ones.

"Consequences of environmental change" was the prompt provided to #mindjourney to generate this image.
The prompt is a quote from "Catchment and Critical Zone Science – Understanding Ecosystems Through Monitoring, Analysis, and Experimentation II" the fourth of four sessions convened today at #AGU22.
We'll be replying to his post as we post live from our final session at #AGU2022.

Perfect way to roll into your #AGU22 Friday afternoon. And you can join in from wherever you are in McCormick Place, keep resting those feet for the afternoon poster session.
"Global Impact of Non-perennial Waterways: Integrating Hydrological, Geochemical, Microbiological, and Social Perspectives" is co-convened by Big Data Cluster member Erin Seybold.

"Dynamic flow regime" was the prompt provided to #midjourney which generated this illustration.
The prompt is a quote from the abstract for "Linking oxygen regimes to flow regimes in non-perennial streams", part of a Friday afternoon #AGU22 poster session presented by Cluster member Erin Seybold.

Jamie Shanley is a #BigData Cluster collaborator who is part of the United States Geological Survey in #Vermont.
Shanley has been attending #AmericanGeophysicalUnion Fall Meetings throughout his career, "I won't say how many," he adds.
We asked him if he's noticed a change in tone over the years of how the community talks about #ClimateChange.
The change, he told us, is not in the science community, but in the people who we work to inform.

"Water quality degredation" promoted #midjourney to generate this illustration.
The prompt is quoted from the "A Continental-scale Deep Learning Model for Total Phosphorus Reveals Progress Toward #WaterQuality Goals over the Past 40 Years in the United States" abstract, presented by a team from #PennState including Cluster member Li Li during Food-Water Link and Nonpoint Source Flux Impact on #groundwater #Vadose Zone, and Surface Water Quality.

@GearsLaboratory is in force today at #AGU! Nikki Inglis and Adriano Matos are both presenting their posters this morning, and former GEARS member Adriana Parra is giving her talk at 9:25! #AGU22 #AGU2022

Add some #CriticalZone research to your afternoon #AGU22 poster visits.
Cluster member and Desert Research Institute-based Gabrielle Boisrame presents "Relationships Between #Snowpack, Low Flows, and Stream Temperature in Maritime Western U.S. Mountains" describing their work examining which areas "will be most affected by predicted future reductions in snowpack under #ClimateChange."

In the #AGU22 poster hall with members of the #CriticalZone Collaborative Network Big Data Cluster. Clockwise from upper right. Dustin Kincaid describes his work studying solute export behavior patterns, Julia Perdrial shares some of the outcomes of the Cluster's work in a Vermont #watershed, Gabrielle Boisrame takes a look at Dustin's poster, Liz Andrews and Bryn Stewart share smiles (under masks) ahead of Liz presenting a poster outlining some Andrews/Stewart collaboration. #AGU2022 #hydrology

Haumea’s 3.9 hour day makes its rotation rate the fastest of any large body in the solar system. Together with its triaxial ellipsoid shape, the surface gravitational acceleration varies from ~0.012 m/s2 at the equator to ~1.08 m/s2 at the pole---almost 2 orders of magnitude. This results in some super funky cratering dynamics at poles v. equator.
Come listen to Dr. George McDonald's talk today at 2:40 PM, EP35B-01: Spatially Variable Crater Morphology on the Dwarf Planet Haumea #AGU22 #AGU2022

"Disentangle the interacting drivers of solute loading to streams" was the prompt provided to #midjourney to generate this illustration.
The prompt is a quote from the abstract for "Drivers and pathways of carbon and nitrogen in soil and streams: insights from the Sleepers River Research Watershed in Vermont", a poster highlighting the work of the whole #BigData Cluster during the Thursday morning session at #AGU22.

Big data is great, *clean* big data is useful. Our Cluster is working to develop reliable #MachineLearning models that will enable #EnvironmentalScience researchers to get huge sets of data cleaned so it can help answer their research questions accurately.
Hear about this work in this morning's online #AGU22 session Peak Anomaly Detection using Critical Zone Time Series Data: Knowledge-Engineering and Deep-Learning
