  1. Design floods are modeling tool used by #CivilEngineers to plan how to build communities in areas that are hydrologically active.

Design floods are also very useful for #EnvironmentalScience research. At #AGU22 last year #UniversityOfVermont-based and Cluster collaborator Scott Lawson presented about work in this area: bit.ly/3KTuj9O

  3. This week, I attended the #AGU22 in Chicago and it was an amazing experience. I gave an oral presentation on my #PhD research on how various #hydrometeorological drivers contribute to the severity of #compound #climate and #weather #extreme #events and their resulting #socioeconomic impacts.

I had some really interesting discussions with other researchers on compound extreme events and got to know more about the research they're doing. I also met some old friends and made some new ones.

  4. "Consequences of environmental change" was the prompt provided to #mindjourney to generate this image.

The prompt is a quote from "Catchment and Critical Zone Science – Understanding Ecosystems Through Monitoring, Analysis, and Experimentation II" the fourth of four sessions convened today at #AGU22.

  11. Coffee counts as a granular material, right? Ditched #AGU22 for a guided tour of Chicago's #coffee scene with fam from Discord's Espresso Aficionados. Nice #espresso at Dayglow and took home some Akmel from #CoffeeCollective.

  12. If you weren’t able to attend #AGU22, here is the poster I presented about #lightning during the eruption of #Hunga #Volcano.

  13. "Water quality degredation" promoted #midjourney to generate this illustration.

The prompt is quoted from the "A Continental-scale Deep Learning Model for Total Phosphorus Reveals Progress Toward #WaterQuality Goals over the Past 40 Years in the United States" abstract, presented by a team from #PennState including Cluster member Li Li during Food-Water Link and Nonpoint Source Flux Impact on #groundwater #Vadose Zone, and Surface Water Quality.

  25. I’m recruiting MSc/PhD students to join my lab at #ClemsonUniversity in Fall ‘23! If you’re interested in #paleotempestology (#prehistoric #hurricanes), the hydro side of #paleoclimate, and/or records of #coastal or #hydrological #hazards, get in touch! We use multiple proxies, primarily #sediment & #treerings, to reconstruct #extreme events in the past. There are plenty of opportunities for #fieldwork & #labwork. If you’re going to #AGU22 & want to chat about this, let me know & we’ll meet up!
