“A landscape in central Quebec transformed suddenly in spring 2025 when a lake burst its banks and drained. Members of the nearby community of Waswanipi who use the area for hunting, fishing, and trapping learned of the curious incident in early May, after reports of a washed-out road. Further air- and ground-based investigations revealed that land around the lake had collapsed and that Lac Rouge had emptied..."

  4. #GreatLake In #NorthAmerica Turns A Green Due To Toxic #Algae
#Landsat9 snapped images of #algalbloom in #LakeErie on August 13, revealing it covered approximately 830km (320 square miles) of water within its western basin, according to #NASA #EarthObservatory. It continued to grow to this season’s likely largest extent of 1,700 square km (660 square miles) on August 22. Lake Erie regularly experiences algal blooms, primarily because of nutrient runoff from #MaumeeRiver.

“For over half-a-century, the Nasa and US Geological Survey's Landsat program has documented changes to the Earth's surface, making it the longest continuous space-based record of our planet's land ever.
What has the program taught us about the Earth's transformation? And what's next for Landsat?...”

  6. My #day26 map for the #30DayMapChallenge is more symbolic for the Minimal (less is more) theme. Plaquemines Parrish, Louisiana sits at the nexus of the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. Less coastal erosion and fewer saltwater intrusions will bring more ecosystem benefits. Map shows a false color infrared composite of a Landsat 9 scene texturized. Living vegetation is red and water is dark blue.

  7. Exciting news! We have 3️⃣ new #LadiesofLandsat leaders who we will highlight this month on #LoLManuscriptMonday.

Today we feature Sarah Schenkein, who helps with our #Landsat9 trading cards & represented us at #AGU22. Be sure to connect with her! #EOChat

Last week, Sarah presented about #LadiesofLandsat with Matilda Anokye at the Google Earth booth at #AGU22 with support from Kate Fickas! Thanks for all your efforts ladies; we’re honoured to work with you!
