  1. @MaddieM4 @loon

    God damn.... you're one smart cookie. But I wonder how you did in compiler design?

    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <stdlib.h>

    int main() {
    int *p = malloc(sizeof(int));
    *p = 42;
    free(p);

    printf("%d\n", *p); // memory has been freed — we're reading garbage or worse
    *p = 100; // writing into memory we no longer own

    return 0;
    }

    _______

    Care to elaborate?

  8. So, with certain current events dampening my interest in Linux (and giving me reason to explore the world of BSDs), a few things are crystallizing in my mind about what I want from the future of the Layover package manager, and its implementation language, #pronelang.

    First of all, I think ZFS and jails are a great fit for Layover. I had a proof of concept once for doing build steps in Linux containers, but jails are a better kernel primitive IMHO. It probably makes more sense to ship a BSD than a Linux, so Maddie's BSD, or MBSD for short. I plan to experiment with existing BSD offerings in VMs soon and get a feel for how package management conventionally works in BSDs, which helps me know what features and paradigms are needed to be competitive.
