@cks @davefischer I've usually done this via Xterm keybindings – it has a built-in action to spawn itself, and automatically detects the child shell's cwd.

Sie sagen, dass die Liebe bitter schmecke … Allein was tut’s? Was tut’s?
Ich habe deinen Mund geküsst, Jochanaan. Ich habe ihn geküsst, deinen Mund.— Salome

@janmontag No worries! We received help from @icm and @davefischer and the machine was moved to ZKM for an exhibition and a conference where we will hear firsthand about the CM from Thinking Machines engineers and designer Tamiko Thiel. Also online on March 27/28: https://zkm.de/en/2026/03/envisioning-ai-legacy-and-impact-of-the-connection-machine

I occasionally do a little food photography for this Guatemalan pupusa/bakery place a few blocks from my home, generally in exchange for food. Ha! So good.

Wonder where you came from...

Seventeen years ago! I bought this multi-million dollar hoard of Sun servers from a scrap yard for $300. After testing, fixing, and swapping parts to max out some of them, I traded a couple for an SGI Onyx for the museum, a few more for parts of what eventually became my personal 16-proc Origin-2000, and kept two as compute servers for my film making.
(A maxxed-out E4000 has 14 x 400 Mhz UltraSparc II's, and 14 gig of ram (In 128meg sticks! Ha ha ha. Warm.)).

Alright... I thiiiiiink that's the final shot I needed to finish the 2nd edition of the photo book for our computer museum.

Printdrum. Printdrum! PRINTDRUM!

Working on new photos for the second edition of the photo book I did for our computer museum. (Primarily doing a 2nd ed to get higher quality printing. Previous copies quality is just not good enough.)

This scene is why I named my cat Salome. (I love the original play, I've read it in a few languages, but Imogen Millais-Scott's performance in this scene is UNREAL.)

Was not expecting Bertei's account of playing keys in The Contortions to reference my favorite flick...

There is no airflow whatsoever inside the ROLM militarized version of the DG Nova, so the IC's and other components straddle metal bars that conduct heat to the edge of the board, and from there to outside the chassis.

Classic. (Sadly, just the front panel, not the full machine.)

This just showed up in the mail! Completely forgot I had pre-ordered it. Should fill in a lot of gaps in my knowledge of this scene...

This is all that remains of the entrance to an underground public bathroom from the 1910s. It's my favorite building in Providence. MORE FOLLYS!
