I've never been one to sign up for #arXiv daily emails or skim the recent postings. I just look up people I know, a paper someone cited, etc. I decided to take a look at a couple #math subjects and things are looking bad. There was always some junk, to be sure. Sometimes a #crank would manage an #MIT affiliation and post a "proof" of the #Collatz conjecture or someone would vouch for a kid in high school, for whatever misguided reason. Now though, we've just got people posting papers with only a #gmail address, no affiliation, and an section that basically reads "corpo #AI #LLM chatbot 5000 is my best friend and helped me with all those fancy math words but I totally wrote this". Idk if they're bots or people, but I feel silly worrying that I would be less "legitimate" if I stopped posting on the arXiv. It might as well be #vixra at this point.
