I'm constantly amazed that Blankie is the only app in the U.S. #MacAppStore's Top 10 Free Health & Fitness apps without #InAppPurchases. Every other app either requires a subscription or has a freemium model. #OpenSource

Not a big surprise, but hiding the "In-App Purchase" labels on previously downloaded apps also happens on the iPhone App Store. A friend with Family Sharing enabled confirmed that apps shared from their family members' accounts also hid the IAP labels, even when my friend had never downloaded the app before.

I just noticed previously installed apps don't show the IAP label next to the download button. The app could have added IAPs since you first used it, but you'd wouldn't know unless you visit its page or use it.
My sense is Apple knows IAP labels deters users, but why give old apps an advantage?

I think a lot of the “everyone should learn to code” efforts, while well intentioned, are going to end up being a net negative. Many of the bootcamps I see being pushed on folks seeking retraining either softball it too hard with Bootstrap and HTML “fundamentals” or go “full stack” as #MERN.
Having entry-level knowledge in the two most overused webdev stacks is beyond useless. GPT 4 can probably write better code for those frameworks than the average bootcamper. We need more people in niches!

#Oklahoma & #OHP needs to chill out on the amount of emergency alerts for non-life threatening situations, or at the very least we need Apple/Google to add more opt-outs for additional categories.
There’s no good way to complain about this without me looking like a big jerk, but I fear that if it is continued to be overused MORE people will opt OUT of critical alerts.
The only time my phone should be making noise against my will is if I’m in a location where my safety is at an immediate risk.

Today I got to launch a React Native app with major help from @zachmiles. It’s amazing that I could do this in under six months despite no React, JavaScript or really any development experience.
When I tell people that I think LLMs can change the way we think about how technology is built a big part of it is who is now able to build technology.
Building an iOS app that I dreamed up in my brain has been a bucket list item for many years. Feels amazing to check it off. #Tamagui

Bluesky users are having a massive #TrustAndSafety conversation in the wake of the #Bluesky team’s decision to platform an individual with a history of violent and hate-driven posts.
In a thread chastising the Bluesky team, one person mentioned the #SantaClaraPrinciples. I’m pretty new to T&S discussions so I had never heard of these before, but I’m so glad I did and I urge others to read them too. It’s not a silver bullet, but it’s a very interesting starting point.

Netflix picked the wrong time to pull their shenanigans. I’d been a digital subscriber since the launch of digital only subscriptions in 2009.
Over time my account grew to include profiles for people in 4 houses. Netflix wouldn’t let us pay to keep everyone on one account if we wanted to. So we cancelled.
We all decided we’re better off without it, especially because their selection isn’t what it used to be. Easy decision honestly.

I really enjoyed @danielpunkass’s perspective on this week’s #TheTalkShow about how AI fears aren’t that different from other technologies that weren’t well understood last century. He said a lot more than that too and didn’t try to downplay the fears either, (e.g. we’re cars a good invention after all?) but it was a sobering analogy that made me think. Worth the listen!

This is exactly why I set up @nwstulsawarn. I wish NWS Tulsa would just set up their own Fediverse account (ideally on an official NWS/NOAA server) but this sucks and people have access to high quality weather news under threat because Elon Musk is a clown.
