🇫🇷 Cet après-midi, je lisais le numéro d'octobre de BBC Sky at night. Je me rendais une fois encore combien on avait progressé dans la connaissance de notre univers! Lorsque j'ai débuté à m'intéresser à l'astronomie, il y a près de cinquante, on ignorait que le centre de notre galaxie abritait un trou noir, on ne savait rien de la matière noire, ... et lorsque je vois les photos de l'univers d'aujourd'hui, même prises par des amateurs, comparées à celles de l'époque, je ne peux qu'être émerveillé!
Une info a retenu mon attention, il semblerait que notre galaxie ait, il y a très longtemps basculé de 90° par rapport à son axe original suite à une collision avec une autre galaxie (qui a été absorbée). On a du mal à imaginer un tel spectacle qui a du prendre des millions d'années mais on ne peut être qu'effaré devant la force nécessaire pour ce faire!
S'intéresser à ces sujets, ça aide aussi à relativiser notre importance dans l'univers et même à voir la folie de notre époque d'une autre manière... Quoi qu'il en soit, je ne me lasse pas de voir ces photos du "deep space" et de lire à propos de ces découvertes!
🇬🇧 This afternoon I was reading the October issue of BBC Sky at night. I realized once again how much we had progressed in our knowledge of our universe! When I first became interested in astronomy, almost fifty years ago, we didn't know that the center of our galaxy was home to a black hole, we knew nothing about dark matter, ... and when I see today's photos of the universe, even taken by amateurs, and compared to those taken fifty years ago, I can only be amazed!
An information caught my attention, it seems that our galaxy flipped by 90° from its original axis a very long time ago following a collision with another galaxy (which was absorbed). It's hard to imagine such a spectacle that must have taken millions of years, but we can only be appalled by the cosmic forces in action!
Being interested in these subjects also helps to put our importance in the universe into perspective and even to see the madness of our time in another way... Anyway, I still amazed of seeing photos of the "deep space" and reading about astronomical/astrophysical discoveries!

I remember a time when agencies tasked with enforcement against foreign threat actors were, by statute, not allowed to spy on US civilians especially with blanket dragnet surveillance. I think the Fourth Amendment had some things to say about that. It would be like deploying the US military against US civilians… oh wait they’re doing that too.
Yes, taxpayer dollars being used to spy on innocent natural born US citizens and shoot them in the face, when the core task is supposed to be protecting us from foreign invaders who in many cases it turns out are largely imaginary and a mere pretense for weaponizing the government against innocent citizens.

Netflix’s “AI Gone Wild” documentary is pretty crazy and I’m really glad they made a documentary that accessible about the Hugging Face incident but I couldn’t get over the fact the dude they have to be the contrarian point of view had no fucking clue what he was talking about and seemed just as clueless and egocentric about AI as the rest of the documentary’s subjects.
He made some analogy about AI turning everything into paperclips and insisted it’s 15 years old and I’m like oh my god you’re trying to describe Eric Drexler’s grey goo analogy badly and how the fuck have the people making AI not read the Engines of Creation
