I was skeptical six sessions of coaching could make a sizable dent in my challenges — I was struggling with so many areas of my life — but I walked away from every session feeling like I gained something precious and helpful. By the end, I was able to say, "I'm autistic and proud." - Nat H., Coaching Client, Diagnosis at 34

  12. In my work as an AuDHD life coach, I've found there are 5 stages people predictably go through after figuring out as an adult that you're autistic.

You can learn more about these in a workshop I hosted and offer to you for free here: youtube.com/watch?v=TS4ntEz_Ids

  13. The hardest and the most fruitful lesson is to unlearn the lessons of conditioning that no longer serve me.

  14. Good morning Fedi friends. Sunday morning, the day most people sleep in - me at 5am - wide awake &🫪. Mind you it wasn’t a bad sleep a little restless because it was warm & having shoulder issues, but that’s not unusual.
I stood on the back lawn pre dawn watching the stars fade & noting some very dark clouds low in the sky, such a lovely quiet time of day. Rain is supposed to be arriving later this morning, quite a bit apparently. If not, I’ll be watering later.
Anyway I’m up, I’ve had tea, toast & coffee. That’s all I’ve done though. I intend to do yin yoga class soon I feel in the need of some gentle exercise. Then as it’s Sunday I’ll be off to visit my sister. I’m supposed to be going out for a family dinner this evening but at the moment I’m thinking I might beg off as I’m not in the mood. I’ll see how the day progresses.
    Hope you all enjoy your #Sunday whatever you’re up to 🌻. #EarlyMorning #Exercise #Family.

  15. It is okay to feel grief over figuring out you're Autistic as an adult.

A period of mourning is healthy.

I felt a lot of things. Some of them conflicting or confusing. I felt relief at finally figuring out what was going on, and gratitude I wasn't subjected to ABA, and hope for the future, and, yes, grief.

  16. Grief at what might have been, and the life that I could have had, if I had known, and if that was accepted and supported. I found it was important to sit with that grief and let it be. And eventually it wasn't so overwhelming anymore. Sometimes I still get a wave of it, and I know it'll pass if I let it be.

  17. A later identification isn't a one emotion experience. It's okay for it to be complicated and challenging. Life is complicated and challenging.

And you'll get through this and be in a better position to make positive changes in your life afterwards.

  18. Something I learned in my later-life Autism diagnosis journey: I'm not broken, I’m wired differently than the neuromajority. And that’s okay. That’s great. That’s wonderful. We need people who are different. We’re all different anyway.

  19. Good morning everyone. It’s going to get quite hot today & I have a busy but happy morning happening. It’s a long awaited breakfast out with the Vinnies ladies I used to volunteer with followed by going to my daughter’s place to give the now Miss 9 her birthday gifts.
This afternoon I’ll be hiding from the heat at home.
I had the split system fan going in the bedroom last night, only on low & it was great. I slept quite well. It isn’t noisy either although I was aware of it.
Anyway I have to go or I will be late as I’ve been dawdling- again 😁. #VinniesBreakfast #AussieSpring #HotDay #Granddaughter.

  23. If you're interested in getting support for yourself and your later-life Autism diagnosis, and working with me, I'm taking new 1-to-1 coaching clients. But first! Here are three questions I'd like to you ask yourself: --->

  24. Are you willing to invest your time, energy, and finances into deeply questioning a lifetime of thoughts about yourself and the world, in ways that may feel unfamiliar and new?

  25. Figuring out what’s really going on with yourself can be tricky, but the starting place is always the same. Ask yourself, “𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙚?”

  26. It was that 𝙄 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙𝙣’𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤. And, 𝙄 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙𝙣’𝙩 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜. Children are constantly being told what to do, yet when a lot of it is simply beyond their capabilities, this frustration is a moment by moment experience of life.

  27. Throughout my life and well into adulthood, I would so often get stuck on something, and the people around me would just tell me again what to do, then a bit louder, a bit more insistent, then more frustrated, or exasperated, or angry.

But hearing the instruction wasn’t the problem. 1/3

  28. Granddaughter birthday present shopping successfully completed. I remember soon to be Miss 9 telling her Mum once that she loves grandmas presents because they are wrapped in paper, look interesting & never have just one thing inside 😂🤣. I’ve remembered though & always add small extras. She’s done well this year, I found a Lego pot plant set, two funny faced pots to make with flowering plants in them & bonus - on special & as I was walking to the checkout I noticed a tiny motorised mouse in a clearance area. Granddaughter & I both love miniatures, so I picked that up as well along with the requested squishy thing that looks like a cupcake. I think she’ll be happy. #PresentShopping #Granddaughter
