Bob Dylan brengt dit najaar een boek uit vol 'diepzinnige' tekeningen die hij heeft gemaakt. De Amerikaanse uitgeverij Simon & Schuster kondigde dinsdag aan dat het boek, Point Blank (Quick Studies), op 18 november verschijnt.

In the summer of '66 I was 13 years old. My grandparents had given me a small GE portable AM radio. A palm size unit like in Dave Alvin's "9 Volt Heart"
At night I to go to sleep with the radio hanging on the curtain rod in my room. It's single ear plug secure in my ear listening to far off stations. Stations in Cincinnati, Cleveland, or Chicago. I heard all the great music, in mono, through that device.
One evening stands out. This guy with an imperfect voice singing about how "everybody must get stoned". I was listening to "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35". This was something very different and it drew me in.
Saturday afternoon in my grandparents home was dominated with The Wilbur Brothers, Porter Wagoner and The Grand Ole Opry with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. Dylan guy seemed to fit into that same realm. Yet, very different. It would be a few years before I had the musical savvy to truly appreciate how much he actually did "fit in" with those Nashville icons.
Now I can't definitively identify any other tune I recall listening to that year. I listened to everything. But Dylan stands out.
Thankfully.
