Here's another flashback to 1983.
I was the orientation director at the University of Oklahoma that year. I was 30*. This photo was taken right after the student volunteers I mentored got me in the face with a pie as a token of their affection. One of the student housing dorms, Walker Tower, is in the background.
*Edit: sorry, was 30, not 29!

I am remembering my Mom, Betty, on what would have been her 108th birthday. Our home in Norman OK was 4 blocks from the University of Oklahoma campus, where Dad was a professor.
This photo is from 1958, and my memories are of a wonderful childhood. So much of who I am comes from Mom's teaching and example. I still miss her a lot.

Here is a gift link to the #NewYorkTimes coverage. The flooding videos shown in Rancho Mirage, where we live, are where the Whitewater River (normally a big wide arroyo seco) has filled completely.

It's a grey day in the desert today. Clouds have parked right on top of the San Jacinto Mountains.
It reminds me of the scene in "Close Encounters" when the aliens surround Devil's Tower with clouds as a cloaking device. No giant spaceships have appeared...yet.

I am a diehard Disneyphile. I am also now working as a concierge for luxury clients visiting #Napa.
#Disney is recruiting a new homeowner concierge for their first #Storyliving communty, #Cotino, a mile and a half from my home in Rancho Mirage, CA.
This is my dream job. It's a perfect match for my experience and love of Disney.
My fediverse friends, if you have any Disney connections, would you please put in a word for me?

Today the #NewYorkTimes ran this article (gift link) about a photograph, originally unremarked by the Serious Art Community, that has gone on to earn millions. But the Times only just barely mentioned the use of the photo to promote the Ladies Home Journal. This ad also ran in #TheNewYorker where I downloaded it from the archive (as a paid subscriber!)

I'm so old, I bought from Lands' End when they still sold yachting gear. From about 1984, my friend Carolina reaches from behind to take the helm of an Ericson 35 on #GalvestonBay. I'm in my Lands' End foul weather jacket and overalls.I still own them.

Celebrating 100 years of the Walt Disney Studios today by remembering the day a few weeks ago when Craig and I drove into Glendale to meet daughter Rachel for lunch at the Tam O'Shanter restaurant where Walt and early Imagineers often met.
We requested and got Table 31, where Disney and his colleagues sat so often, it's commemorated by a small placque and a special painting.
Happy 100, Disney people everywhere!

Courage in the face of oppression is vital..
I grew up in Norman OK, home to the U of Oklahoma, and a "sundown" town where Black people were only allowed in town during the day.
This didn't formally end until 1967, when Dr. George Henderson became the first Black OU professor, the first Black homeowner in Norman. His son, George Jr. was in my class in high school. . He and sister Michelle, 1 year younger, were the first Black people I ever knew.

The restored Alice In Wonderland is terrific! Beautiful, hand-drawn animation: the fantasy sequence with the playing card soldiers is iconic. With Eyvind Earle's midcentury style and color inspiration from the incomparable Mary Blair, 1959's Sleeping Beauty is worth watching over and over.

I have owned a couple of SUVs in my life, including this Chevrolet S-10 Blazer I used to tow the 22-foot Windrose sailboat I co-owned with a friend from work.
Photo taken in 1983. Oklahoma is a hugely popular sailing location, with manmade lakes everywhere, most in state parks...and the wind really does come sweeping down the plains.
When I lived in Norman, the largest Hobie Cat dealer in the US was there.

Well, I grew up in #NormanOklahoma -- leafy college town, bright blue spot in red state. If offered the job, we could make a life there.
Tick, tick, tick, both waiting to learn if either had an offer. What if we BOTH got an offer?!!
I was not hopeful, hiring manager, graduate of ultra-right Liberty U. I was right, they did not choose me for the job. (whew in a way, but now fingers crossed for Craig and life in Bay Area)
TL;DR He got the job! (deep exhale)
