For today’s #vgmwednesday, here’s the theme from #SuperMarioLand remixed in #MarioKartWorld:

Back in middle school, I went over to my friend who had a GameCube's house with a cassette tape ready to record this one for frequent listening. Hearing it again, especially after original Mach Rider footage, it's such a clever composition! It combines so many different sections in such a short time with expert fluidity! This was definitely an influence on my taste for "Thank You For The Gopher"-type freeform.

Oh boy, so, this week on #VGMWednesday I fell down a little rabbit hole.
Today's game is The Dynastic Hero for the Turbo Grafx CD, a console I know very little about as my childhood was so embroiled in the Nintendo/Sega console war I didn't realise other consoles existed, until the PlayStation 1.
Chances are, if you owned a Sega Genesis or Megadrive, you have played this game, as it is a slightly edited port of Wonder boy in Monster World, one of my favourite games on the console.
This version features an animated opening, complete with a vocal song! Better yet, there are English and Japanese versions, which are completely different! So I figured I'd share both of them.

So, I think for this week's #VGMWednesday I am contractually obligated to talk about something from Gen 2 #Pokemon
With this in mind, how could I possibly pick just one track from this generation of Pokemon?! I certainly couldn't cop out a pick a track from the Kanto region, could I?
Going through the OST was a bit of a weird experience because as I was going through the battle music, I came to the conclusion I didn't actually like it that much. Perhaps it is more the Gameboy's sound capabilities doing the tracks a disservice.
Therefore, the thought process was, what track just resonated with me the most, and made me feel I was in Johto.
I settled on the Azalea town and Blackthorn city theme. I can't put my finger on it, but this just hit my nostalgia just right, and I love it so much.
This track comes across quite quaint and peaceful, which I think captures Johto as a region quite nicely. -

So, it's a little out of season for me to be dropping a Nintendo track for #VGMWednesday , but my theme for this year is games I have been playing over the last week.
Super Mario Bros 3 is one of my favourite Mario games of all time, constantly fighting Super Mario World as my number 1 2D Mario game.
There is one track that lives totally rent-free in my head, and that is the second overworld theme, I have seen it labelled, sometimes, as the Athletic theme.

So, part of the reason this is burnt into my memory is because I associate this track with some of the harder stages in the game, mostly the sky levels and auto-scrollers... Levels I struggled to beat as a kid. Even though I say that, I have a less traumatic response to this track than Stickerbrush Symphony from Donkey Kong Country 2, because this song doesn't fill me with dread... Mild panic and frantic energy for sure, but not enough to make me fear the song.
