I've never held a HuCard. I've never even seen a HuCard in person. But the magnificence of it is undeniable.
I wish we could experience the alternate future where NEC and Hudson were still major players in the console space.
The link cable itself appears to be a 3.5mm jack, so it's harder to figure out the pinout of the link cable for that, especially since these are incredibly rare. Looking at forum posts and schematics, no one seems to have figured it out yet either. All I know for sure is there's more than "second controller connected" being sent to trigger the link cable activation.

On the hardware side, using pictures of the interior, the link cable, and replacement controller boards, we've determined it's directly reading the controller input itself and sending that to the logic board on the controller board and sending those signals to the CPU and game's code executes the inputs. While that may seem obvious... still no idea what the signal is or why connecting a second controller in emulation doesn't make it go "oh hey".

Working with someone else and we're learning a lot about how the TG16 Express/PCE GT link cable works just from looking at schematics and boards. This started because I was again complaining that no emulator does ExpressLink for the... 6 games that use it. They're half tempted to turn it into a project to figure out the code side and see if it can be implemented.

Zipang - Get the wand and then make it to the door. Destroy and create blocks with a sword.
Cratermaze - This is what if Lode Runner were top down, and it works!
Gomola Speed - You're a ball that collects other balls and becomes a snake. Then snake around levels trying to solve them.
Somer Assault - You're a little accordion thing that can climb walls and ceilings while shooting and exploring a level.

Yes, yes, yes! #Valis 3's western box art is possibly the pinnacle of series
Let's start with that title. The faux metallic gradient with a sword woven between the letters. It screams metal band, and in fact, Valis might now be the name of my indie metal band.
Our protagonist on the box gives proto Xenia warrior princess vibes. Let's ignore the fact that Yuko is supposed to be 17 or 18. She is looking cool and serene against a backdrop of jagged mountains and lightning. Get a clean version of the image with the CD cinema screens and logos and I'd have that image on my wall somewhere.
The Japanese version is similar in nature to the Genesis box art. Our three playable characters all battle ready against a gradiented backdrop.
We can get a better look at Cham's design and her whip with her being in the foreground and the Sword of Valis this time is of indeterminate length.
Credit to the western cover art here, I honestly think they knocked it out of the park!
God damn, #Valis 2's international release has such a bad cover.
It is so bad it is tragic.
In its defence, I will say that the red, satanic, demon goes quite hard. But the stylisation is just weak in my opinion.
Something I have noticed with the western box arts, such as the SNES Super Valis box art. They like to depict early game bosses, as if they are a bigger bad, whilst Japan has the imposing image of the final boss looming over Yuko.
I also like how most western depictions of the Valis sword show it as a short sword, whilst the Japanese depiction is like a claymore.
The western box art being bad is just my opinion, you might really gel with it, but I just find it kind of funny.
As for the Japanese cover. Yeah, I like it. It's much better than the cover for the first game. There is something about the confident look in Yuko's face that sells her as a badass, compared to the western one where she almost looks like she is cowering behind her sword.

Going to do the crystal mod to convert the PAL #turbografx from 50Hz to 60Hz. Will be replacing the 21.32825 MHz crystal at X201 with a 21.47727 MHz crystal. Made a video for reference. Using the 240p Test Suite lag test. In original state 10s on screen takes about 12s to run. #tg16 #turbografx16
I remember playing Splatterhouse with @tanuki and being spooked by the various jump scares.
This game is the equivalent of going through a really good haunted house and is just as fun.
It’s got some creepy moments and a dark story that would never fly on other platforms.
I miss these games.
Well I think this might actually be my replacement PC Engine PCB working first time, or at least one of the video channels looks plausible on an oscilloscope and I'm pretty amazed I've not had to fix anything to get to that stage
This is the PC Engine I impulse bought in Japan, which then never worked, probably first because the ribbon cable was fragile and had broken, and then because of all the damage I'd done when reworking the PCB (I hate old PCBs), despite my best efforts to check for broken traces. The next step is to move over the 69-pin rear connector, which is not a desoldering job I'm looking forward to

Oh boy, so, this week on #VGMWednesday I fell down a little rabbit hole.
Today's game is The Dynastic Hero for the Turbo Grafx CD, a console I know very little about as my childhood was so embroiled in the Nintendo/Sega console war I didn't realise other consoles existed, until the PlayStation 1.
Chances are, if you owned a Sega Genesis or Megadrive, you have played this game, as it is a slightly edited port of Wonder boy in Monster World, one of my favourite games on the console.
This version features an animated opening, complete with a vocal song! Better yet, there are English and Japanese versions, which are completely different! So I figured I'd share both of them.

The English version I find particularly cringe worthy, but I don't think the Japanese version is any better!
