Good news on #ribbit. See the YouTube video link below.
Ribbit is a fun and innovative mode that provides effective tactical digital #hamradio communications.
Ribbit is #opensource and uses the highest performing forward error correction available. Get the free mobile #rattlegram app and any radio. You are ready to send short text messages over the air - no wires or extra equipment needed.
Ribbit is sponsored and supported by @OpenResearchIns and lead by Pierre W4CKX.

Here’s a video about work on #rattlegram from the wonderful Ahmet Inan AKA “xdsopl”
If you have similar #innovative #AmateurRadio projects that need a home, @OpenResearchIns might be able to help. Let me know how we can be of service.

Like #rattlegram on #android ?
It's coming to #IoS very soon.

Documentation Day at @OpenResearchIns today and the updates are rolling in! We'll have a really nice April Inner Circle newsletter.
Thank you to #haifuraiya #ribbit #rfbitbanger #regulatory #RemoteLabs and all our other #opensource #hamradio teams working hard to publish great work.
It's an honor to help make it happen a bit easier and faster.
We welcome people wherever they are. Learn how to get started here:

There's two paths forward, each with two blockers, on #neptune (#opensource drone datalink using #hamradio bands).
1) 2021.1 Petalinux build, where the #ADI #MATLAB transceiver toolbox works, but the #ADI TES profiles do not work.
2) 2022.2 Petalinux build, where the #ADI #MATLAB transceiver toolbox doesn't work, but the #ADI TES profile is correct.
If you can help, please get in touch. We've got great things going on and want to demonstrate them on this hardware.

Anyone with experience on #non-coherent #digital #communications #demodulation - we're looking at how to better integrate phase ambiguity resolution with respect to #MSK. In other words, avoid having to have a #differential encoder/decoder by using the two pre-existing #Costas loops out of phase with each other, to provide the same functionality. If this is "old news" please let us know?
Thank you @OpenResearchIns for the opportunity and support.

I really like @mastodon.radio
This is a great server with lovely people and wonderful content.
Thank you to everyone here that's made it not just possible to exist in #hamradio but genuinely thrive.
This wasn't looking likely after ugly and inexplicable behavior towards me personally and the work I do as a volunteer from #ARDC and #AMSAT over the past 2 years.
AMSAT-NA in particular - the other AMSATs have been fantastic to work with.

I was optimistic about last summer's 10 GHz #distance #record attempt between CA and HI, but it didn't work out.
Any other coordinated attempts in planning? There's only a few places in the world that have these types of #tropospheric ducts.

Thank you to David Siddall at #ARRL for filing a comment about #219MHz to the FCC ahead of the 15 November 2023 meeting about lifting the symbol rate limit and replacing it with a #bandwidth limitation.
David has been nothing but helpful, with advice and support on multiple occasions for both amateur radio and amateur radio satellite service work.
If you'd like to activate the 219 MHz band, would you please let ARRL know in writing? Details in the image attached.

Slides done, script done - recording the talk for #qsotoday academy about the #shortened #hf antenna work is next. I think I'm tardy in turning it in. 🙄
Voice still not totally recovered from running the #opensource #digital #radio exhibit at #defcon. So, I did not get very far into the 3300 words or so I got going on here before I had to quit for the night.
The script needs some additional editing to be a decent article. That attempt will begin after the recording is complete.

If anyone happens to be at @fosdem 31 Jan - 1 Feb then one of our @OpenResearchIns volunteers will be presenting #OpulentVoice work. Please feel free to introduce yourself to Evariste @f5oeo Wish I could be there in person!

Things are moving very fast for an #opulentVoice ASIC.
This is on track to be the first #opensource #hamradio chip in the world, and will have much better voice quality and user experience than any other digital voice option out there. Radio hardware to follow.
Funding and partners are now in place, despite tariff and supply chain challenges.
It's an honor and privilege to work with a fantastic international team of ORI volunteers.

Frame lock signaling work moving forward fast - we'll talk about it today at @OpenResearchIns weekly meetup.
New sync word successfully received, flywheel style frame synchronization state machine working well so far.
Verification/Validation started. Found an initialization bug that affects only the second frame. Not bad for the first run of upgraded code. Thank you to everyone helping with #OpulentVoice! -
Today we test #OpulentVoice human-radio web interface against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines #wcag and write down anything that needs to be changed to make it more #accessible.
This phase will be driven from automated test suites from a variety of sources.
The next phase will be from people evaluating what we've done and letting us know where we need to do better.
Thank you to everyone helping us do ambitious work for #amateurradio !

Major milestone for #OpulentVoice happened yesterday. It's sputtering and coughing a bit, because of all the usual problems with developing a digital radio system, but we have end-to-end microphone to airwaves transmission.
For terrestrial applications, this brings us incredibly close to an HT and really nice repeater (conference) system. That work will continue.
For space, this is a working uplink. Satellite multi rate receiver is next in line for integration.
-
The ARM code for the Pluto SDR that listens for #OpulentVoice frames coming in from the radio-human interface compiled without errors tonight and will be tested early tomorrow morning.
If you saw us at #defcon then you may recall the modem and the human-radio interface were demonstrates separately.
We may have things working end-to-end very soon. Microphone and keyboard to over the air for a full uplink demonstration.

Quiet day here so I'm thinking about helping out with connecting up the Locutus and Interlocutor projects together.
Locutus is the modem, and Interlocutor is the human-radio interface, for #OpulentVoice.
Each has been demonstrated separately. Time to get the end to end #OpulentVoice system closer to working.
Thank you #amateur #radio community for the support!

Transcriptions for #OpulentVoice audio in the web interface not working quite yet, but getting closer!
Human-Radio interface here: https://github.com/OpenResearchInstitute/interlocutor
Conference Server here: https://github.com/OpenResearchInstitute/locus
Intended for UHF and up.

Added Atkinson Hyperlegible font to #OpulentVoice, along with a font size adjuster in the web interface.
Tomorrow we'll get audio transcriptions tested. The transcriptions will be in the message history window, and can be configured on or off in the configuration file. The UI Audio Replay bubble allows you to replay received or sent audio with a play button. When turned on, transcriptions will appear in the UI Audio Replay bubble right below the audio replay button.

Great news - #OpulentVoice successfully flew on University of Puerto Rico's RockSat-X flight today. Transmission received on the ground from the rocket by the student team.
A big Open Source Digital Radio win! ❤️
Full story in the next @OpenResearchIns newsletter.

Local loopback with pseudo random bit sequences is working on the new #fpga based #OpulentVoice implementation. This is a loopback test through just the logic in the FPGA.
The next big step is loopback over the air on the PLUTO.
-
Tons of great work on #OpulentVoice the past few weeks. It's really an honor to be associated with this team.
-
Working transceiver in #VHDL for #OpulentVoice. We're adding push to talk and AXI-S interfacing. First draft of integrating it with Analog Devices reference designs went really well.
It's going to be great to demonstrate this live over the air. Thank you to everyone that has helped make this happen!

I guess we're on the right track with #OpulentVoice :D
We are using Sir Martin's implementation of MSK demod/decode/clock recovery for smallsat communications to make an open source design for amateur radio, and he's been a big help, along with several others. Thank you to everyone at UK Surrey!
