  1. US Air Force Enhances HC-130J Countermeasures with Satellite-Fed Threat Updates

Imagine an electronic warfare pod that can adapt to new threats in mid-flight, receiving real-time updates via satellite to stay one step ahead - that's the game-changing potential of the Angry Kitten pod on the HC-130J platform. This cutting-edge tech could revolutionize the way we respond to evolving threats,…

  2. Optimising your workspace for cats is obviously high on my agenda, and Japan has (unsurprisingly) the best products for it, like this 猫ハウスデスク (cat house desk). 😸

Although my low-tech solution works well, and both my older cat and the kitten like using it, they just have to take turns.

  7. Yay, first shot of Auto Encrypt¹ running a HTTPS web server at a Web Number (IP address).

Next step: find out why some of the tests are failing on the Linux box, fix, and implement Web Numbers support in Kitten² and Catalyst³.

  8. Just added Web Reachability API (at least that’s what I’m calling it) support to ip.small-web.org.

It’s for testing the reachability of your Small Web servers (using a domain or, more importantly, an IPv4/IPv6 address). I’m using it to implement Web Numbers¹ support in Auto Encrypt² and Kitten³.

    Protocol:

    • At http://<endpoint> return an empty HTTP 200 response that includes the following custom header: 'web-reachability-id': ‘<uuid>'
    • Hit: ip.small-web.org/reach/<endpoint>/<uuid>/
    • If you get a 200 response back, your endpoint is reachable. Anything else signals an error.

  13. Good day everyone!

Morphisec released an insightful report covering Iranian Cyber Warfare that is targeting the West and other enemies of Iran. The APT involved is #Pay2Key, "an Iranian-backed ransomware-as-as-service (RaaS) operation" that is linked to the Fox Kitten APT group and "closely tied to the well-known #Mimic ransomware."

Normally I call out behaviors and TTPs related but for this report I want to call out the completeness of the report. Not only does it provide more than enough technical details to make actionable in any environment but it also provides a TON of threat intel to support their claims giving the readers and audience an idea if they would be a target or not. It is a great report and I encourage you all to read it! Enjoy and Happy Hunting!

  18. Just requested that Auto Encrypt¹ is added to the list of @letsencrypt clients for Node.js and that Kitten² is added to the list of projects that integrate Let’s Encrypt support:

    github.com/letsencrypt/website

I originally requested that Auto Encrypt and Site.js (the precursor to Kitten, now sunset) be added to the list in 2021. It was not approved (no reason given), so hopefully this time will be different.

I miss the optimism and excitement. It was before everything technology-related went to shit.

Now, my students are enthralled when I say "Listen to me, children, once upon a time YouTube had background playback and no ads" like it was a fairy tale... We never knew how good we had it did we?

  24. Morning all! I was supposed to join @screwlisp for their Lispy Gopher Show podcast yesterday but time zone differences meant I had to send a recording instead which they discussed with questions from their mud (yep, it’s a geeky community) :)

I touched on the history of computing, the current challenge to our human rights and democracy with technofascism, and how the Small Web is one attempt to safeguard our freedoms by creating a peer-to-peer web owned and controlled by everyday people who use technology as an everyday thing. (And the role of design and simplicity in making that possible.)

Anyway, here’s the full recording I sent (as it skips around a bit in the show):

    vimeo.com/1079992713

And here’s the recording of the show itself with commentary by screwlisp and the community:

Thanks for having me on and sorry I couldn’t be there in person.

  25. So I guess Let’s Encrypt has decided what I’ll be working on today then…

    letsencrypt.org/2024/12/05/end

(They’re ending OCSP stapling support. I’ll be updating Auto Encrypt¹ to remove OCSP support and then update @small-tech/https, which uses it, along with Auto Encrypt Localhost² to provide seamless TLS support regardless of whether you’re working in development or in production, and then update Site.js³ – deprecated but still used to serve some of our own sites at Small Technology Foundation⁴ – and Kitten⁵, with the latest @small-tech/https.)

  26. Heeeeeeey linux cats!

I would like to learn how to do kernel work
and closer to the grain hardware work. Anyone know of any reasonably-priced device (wifi card? PCI-E card? even if it's a laptop, so long as it's relatively inexpensive for the whole shebang) that oh my god no one gives a shit about enough to write a driver but it would be super cool if it did work?

If you know of any listing of anything of this type or anything, that would be really helpful. I dunno what my price point is but given that it's education to increase my skillset for employability (and to possibly help stave off more compute lockdown in the future) I do have
some budget for it. I'm not really a hardware kitten so I'm not quite sure where to begin to look for this kind of info.

    Boosts very much appreciated!

  30. JSDB 6.0.0 released 🎉

    Breaking change: Removes Symbol support…

… since we can’t properly serialise/deserialise symbols. Likely, this will not affect anyone as it’s so niche but it’s a major version bump anyway.

Also, the removal of Symbol support fixes a crash that occurs if you persist objects that extend EventEmitter when calling their removeAllListeners() methods. That’s much more important ;)

    Full details: codeberg.org/small-tech/jsdb/s
