    Thanks to #ACME and short lived certificates (even if I'd buy one) I've now to add some kind of shared storage to my new server setup. I need to sync the state of the acme client across multiple servers as otherwise solving the challenges fails (Anycast).

    Switched over from host specific certificates (e.g., foo.scotte.ai , bar.scotte.ai) to wildcard certs (*.scotte.ai). This was driven by the recent trend for applications to be built on frameworks that can't handle being put in a non-root path (scotte.ai/bar/).

    What stupidity and poor engineering. Grr.

    It also leads to a bunch of "configure every application for OIDC" vs a central provider on a proxy. Grr.

    Today's home lab fun is full of Grr.

    DNS-PERSIST-01 ACME validation - Uh oh, constant annoyance, clients are moving so slowly. I would really love to have this with ZeroSSL. It seems that one of the best ways would be using lego with win-acme’s scripts for Windows environment.

    Deep breath. Yeah, it’s doable, slightly annoying. Adding extra custom tech which I would want to avoid in the very first place. But for the systems that NEED it, it still would be better option than NOT having it at all. Maybe when I’m not too busy, I’ll sort it out. It’s doable for sure, if the motivation and need just is there. - Yes, ZeroSSL is also lacking the DNS-PERSIST-01 support, so, double bummer, but life is.

    We're doing a load of TLS certificate issuance automation at the moment (finally!) and one of the team just noticed that AWS added ACME support to ACM.

    We knew this was coming via meetings with the ACM team but didn't realise it'd shipped already.

    I'm now also working on a way to reliably integrate git-pages into my Home Lab. I am just missing an automated way of getting wildcard certificates from my local CA!

    Since I don't know much of the technical details of ACME I decided that I wouldn't search for a ready-made tool to solve this problem, but build one myself, fully according to RFC3555.
    I am not yet sold on making that open, since I will surely make some huge mistakes, but if others are interested in a tool to have DNS-01 challenges solved with a PiHole DNS provider I might open source the project when I am done with the basics and feel comfortable with it.
