I've had very little time on here recently. Have noticed new followers, but have not had a chance to check profiles for follow-backs. Not that anyone is holding breath, but just in case, it's worth a statement. 😬 🤷♀️ Doubt that's going to change until at least the weekend.

New Year's wish? Still thinking what my 1st hope would be for all. Not a pipe-dream, but something realistic? So far I believe it would be for a boring and steady 2023, devoid of upheaval & new crisis. A chance to rebuild. A chance to gain some equilibrium, personally, professionally, nationally. I can't even remember when this was last true for most--if it ever was. But for all of us, I do mostly wish we'd have reason to feel much more steady in our personal worlds.

Thinking on what I can only call "creeping desensitization," AKA the frog sitting in the pot of gradually boiling water. I've been on this platform less than 2 months. Recently I was mostly a #FowlPlace user. Has been years since I had much presence on #Facebook. But occasionally I do have to go back there for specific reasons, including support for clients. Today's a day that some people celebrate. Or bake & cook. Or shop & wrap. Today's a day some of us wrestle the rear seat back into our truck. 🤨 🙄 7 months (since the move when it had to come out to accommodate dog crates) it's been sitting in storage, in my way, frustrating me. But I never dreamed it would be a 4.5hr back-popping, head-exploding project to put the &*%#$@ thing back. What are YOU doing for fun today? 😆

A word of unsolicited advice to the many #newbies--maybe especially the #newsies, of whom I purposefully followed a whole bunch last night. Unlike other places, here you're talking to humans, not algorithms. There are traditions here, like #MonDog. So here's a picture of the world's greatest-ever #GSD puppy (from 2001) to grab your attention so I can tell you that you have a moral obligation to share a pic of a favorite pooch. 😆 🐶

👋 Hopefully hello to "old" #FowlPlace friends now here in the Fediverse. Few min ago I saw a good suggestion to RErun #Movetodon. Done. Found a whole LOT more. Should have thought about that before, especially after the last few weeks, but hopefully better late than never--before the app gets the boot along with the rest of us.

Blank accounts, even those (maybe especially those?) with one avatar pic that's also enlarged for a banner pic give me the heebie-jeebies. Might be post- #FowlPlace trauma. But for me it has creepy lemme-into-your-DM vibes. I already know the single neurosurgeons & lonely foreign princes are here trolling. Realistic assurances help. A word to fellow #dementia #caretakers: my thoughts return to you frequently, especially this HARD time of year. I've been where you are and still understand what few do who haven't been there.
Unsolicited advice is nearly always criticism--I get that. So this is a little short of a "you should" recommendation. But just a personal opinion: the best thing I did for myself in a decade of caretaking was to take this free online course. Next start date is early Feb. 1/

As holidays loom, please don't forget #caretakers you know. Whether for #dementia, #autism, or many others, if you've never been a 24/7 caretaker with no relief, I'll tell you freely that you have NO CLUE what they face. And a big chunk of typical "support" offered is not in the least helpful. I'm considering doing some writing about that, but here's the shortest recap I can offer: DON'T give unsolicited advice. DO offer breaks and private time away from the home. Holidays are really hard.
