  1. @dyckron That article really highlights the long-term consequences of that era. It’s hard to look back at the 2005 cabinet papers and not feel that John Howard was the biggest mistake Australia has ever made.

  2. "Have I the Right?" was the debut single and biggest hit of the English band #theHoneycombs. It was composed by #KenHoward and #AlanBlaikley, who had made contact with the Honeycombs, a London-based group, then playing under the name of the Sheratons, in the Mildmay Tavern in the Balls Pond Road in #Islington, where they played a date. Howard and Blaikley were impressed by the group's lead vocalist, Dennis D'Ell, and the fact that they had a female drummer.

  4. We are re-watching #MurderSheWrote

Episode S09E03 (Oct 4, 1992, The Mole) is about a NYC magnate played by #KenHoward.

He seems very much like #DJT - slick, immoral, buying his way into society. The character owns a basketball team. (#Trump tried to buy the Buffalo Bills; in the early 1980s, he owned the NJ Generals, USFL.)

Ken Howard even looks a little like him, although in 1990 DJT’s hair was dark, not fake blonde.

  5. CW: Australian church in decline: 5 of 5

    5/5
In any case, considering 1-5, and thinking of the Australian context specifically, I cannot think of a single individual more responsible for shifting Australians away from Christianity than the late Cardinal #GeorgePell, whose funeral was held today on #Gadigal land at St Mary’s Cathedral, attended by #JohnHoward, #TonyAbbott and #PeterDutton, amongst others.

I hope Christian people of faith consider this when reflecting upon Pell’s life. Those who love the church and want to see it thrive ought to be very wary of celebrating his work and embracing his legacy.

  6. Nine board chairman Peter Costello resigns after reportedly assaulting a journalist
    abc.net.au/news/2024-06-09/nin

Peter Costello always was a bully, and although not known for being a physically abusive thug, he sure was an entitled piece of shit.
As the Federal Treasurer during the disastrous years of John Howard being Prime Minister, Peter Costello displayed an aptitude for class-based disdain for those he thought were beneath him.
After retiring from politics, he was the recipient of a generous nepo-hire as Chairman of the Board at the Nine Entertainment media empire, where he continued to push his RWNJ agenda.
Good riddance and fuck off, Peter Costello.

Following #DrMichaelGreen back we find a 2013 contribution to a debate in which Dr Green supported #JohnHoward arguing that #Australia's involvement in the second #InvasionOfIraq as part of the #CoalitionOfTheWilling was justified because, in Dr Green's understanding, nearly every major intelligence service in the world believed that #Iraq had #WMDs.

  8. 1901 – Post Office, Westport, Co. Mayo
Architect: J. Howard Pentland, Board of Public Works

Domestically scaled post office - the large semi-circular windows of the public office and the rock faced limestone are particularly attractive aspects of the design.
