I don’t have too much of a problem with •physical• ID cards, as an improvement on the mess of passport + driving licence + utility bills hassle we all have to suffer (and easier to carry for EU travel (ah, oops)).
But this whole mandatory smartphone app tied into numerous databases idea, slurping who knows what sorts of data about you and sending it who knows where, and at risk of hacking? Absolutely no way!

I didn’t know there had been numerous attempts over many decades to get access to Middle Meadow Walk (a broad surfaced tree-lined pathway through the Meadows park, #Edinburgh) for horse carriages and, latterly, motor vehicles. It’s still a very well used green + direct walking + cycling (for over 40 years legally, but probably covertly before) route between #Marchmont - city centre. (Part of me thinks it could have been cool had it included a parkland tram route, though…) https://threadinburgh.scot/2023/07/16/the-thread-about-middle-meadow-walk-how-and-why-it-has-remained-a-traffic-free-route-despite-over-a-century-of-attempts-to-open-it-up/

@LordWoolamaloo Ah, I thought I heard a (surprisingly loud!) #SteamLoco whistle in the distance just a few minutes ago! What’s the visiting train? 🚂

When the #Edinburgh #municipal #LothianBuses bus network gets •completely borked• because of traffic congestion (and really not helped by other diversions in effect today), the only sensible thing for a city claiming to be #sustainable to do would be to close this important bus corridor to private cars (at least for the day), to keep the city and its citizens moving! @EdinburghGreens

Very good to read that #WindEnergy is booming in BW. 🌬️♻️
And possibly almost as good to see yet another #GovMastodon account from mainland #Europe (something that #ScotGov and #UKGov are still studiously woefully ignoring, crazily continuing to spend taxpayers’ money on ad space on (and implicitly supporting) certain #CesspitNetworks instead… 🙄😒) https://xn--baw-joa.social/@Umweltministerium/115133557408281481

Good to see #ScotGov promote #sustainable #transport + reduce high cost of peak-time travel on (state-owned) #ScotRail #trains (but is it just a cynical pre-election bribe?). Not entirely convinced fully scrapping peak fares is the right move: reducing them to only slightly more than off-peak wd still help to spread demand, encourage flexi-hours working + better use of less busy trains. Also worried “off-peak” fares might rise to balance the books, hurting leisure travel.

If catching #LothianBuses to/from Leith St, #Edinburgh, for your Friday night out tonight, all southbound/uphill buses are diverted via York Pl (calling at Picardy Pl) due to roadworks until ~01:00 (cycleway and pavements still open).

There are many places where the arrangements of international #borders result in interesting eccentricities: I didn't previously know about #Verdis, a self-proclaimed forest #micronation alongside the River Danube, comprising land (and part of the river) that, somewhat bizarrely, is claimed by neither Croatia nor Serbia (as each country regards the alignment of their shared border differently). And, of course, someone has mapped it on #OpenStreetMap…

Great to see #EdinburghTrams running extra all night #trams for #EdFests: very handy for a night out in Leith and then connect with #LothianBuses #NightBuses home. 👍
But really shameful that as #Edinburgh’s #municipal transport services they are only publicising this on certain fast declining extremist social networks! 😠

The #TfE (#LothianBuses and #EdinburghTrams) #TransportTracker app seems to be having an off moment just now (probably in absolutely no way affected by the #EdinburghFestivals crowds starting to arrive 🤔), so just a reminder that the old #Edinburgh #BusTracker website still exists (and still seems to be working, assuming that it does have accurate data from the “new” system?).
