On closer inspection of more of my photos of the Black Bear (long lens, cropped of course) it seems clear that s/he had an argument with a porcupine. Quills are broken off around his muzzle. That must suck.

The first flowers for the bumblebees are opening: Trailing Arbutus (Epigaea repens). It is an evergreen groundcover shrub that only grows to a few cm high. Always the first to bloom.

Followed the drumming sound and came across this Ruffed Grouse in the bush. He tried to walk away ever so slowly. Full show on display: the tail fan and the neck ruff.
Another one was with him, no display, and far less shy. -
Yesterday - while driving - this scene I photographed in 2019 played on repeat: a Raven harassing two Bald Eagles just above the road. No stopping possible.
Ravens fly faster, so both Eagles had to keep twisting and turning to avoid being injured by the pesky Raven.
Tough life. Don't cross a Raven! -
