It's a wonderful, rich chaebol meets a timid, lower class girl romCOM with no murders. It deals with a tragic type of loss in a beautiful way, even though it has slapstick & silly humor and a sweet romance. It handles overlapping love triangles very well. The rich chaebol with a maniacal laugh & the timid girl are shown to have reasons for their behavior. Even the noble idiocy rang true in this one.
Animations & crazy sound effects are fabulous. Acting was 10 yrs ago over the top style, but fits the drama really well. All the characters were acted well. The music was so fun. There is a sweet side story that's contrived but still works. A very enjoyable watch! I will look for more of the leads' work.

(2024 - Hulu/Disney+ 8 0:51 eps )A suspenseful, action-packed, violent (but appropriate) story of an uncle who is involved in shady dealings, dying & leaving his 20-something niece alone to protect herself & resolve these shady dealings.
She has to learn who to trust. The FL (at all ages) is acted phenomenally. She lives such a complicated life & conveys all the emotions without much dialogue. The familial bond with Lee Dong Wook can be felt through the screen.
Very well acted, with beautiful fighting, great music, unique gadgets & weapons, surprising villains & allies. The mystery is smart & fresh and will keep you guessing.
It has closure, but does allow for the story to continue. Crossing my fingers for a 2nd season!

Flower Boy Next Door
(2013 - 16 0:50 eps)Watched for Park Shin Hye. She played a depressed recluse very well. It was an okay watch. Typical "Flower Boy" drama - one-sided loves, love triangles, noble idiocy, cutesy stuff & fluff. The characters seemed fairly realistic, but there was some frustration with the FL not wanting to change. She thought she was satisfied with her lonely life.
Even though she almost always stays alone in her apartment, she ends up with 2 guys in love with her & neither are the one she thinks she loves. Unusual for a "Flower Boy" drama, both are decent human beings but very different characters. There are some fun neighbors, a bully to hate, a very fresh & unexpected 2nd couple, & some good music.

(2023 - 16 1:10 eps)Raised together in a village on Jeju island, the leads' romance is inevitable, but for drama reasons, they are torn apart. At 1st this seemed very flat. Although there are some great actors, there wasn't enough depth to the characters & the FL wasn't very likable.
The writing could have been better, but the side stories eventually worked to support the main story & gave lessons about needing & accepting help from family, friends, & village. OK romance - best friends in love instead of passionate lovers, which fits the story. Some side stories could have been better - problems were instantly resolved with a couple of sentences.
Jeju is beautiful. Diving is interesting. Kim Mi Kyung is fabulous, as always. The 2 sisters are cute & fun, & the little girl is just the best! Not the drama I thought it would be, but a decent watch.

(2022 - Viki, 2:22 movie rental)One of the best sci-fi films! Aliens have been using Earth, more precisely, human bodies, as prisons. Unfortunately, some alien criminals have escaped & the guards must hunt them down before they can harm humans.
Time travel, robots, aliens, mages, shamans, shape-shifters, a bounty hunter & a woman with a gun - the kitchen sink of sci-fi & it knows it, so it doesn't take itself too seriously. There are many nods to western sci-fi classics. There's too much action, too many over-the-top scenes, generally too much of everything. It is a thrilling, fine-tuned balance of comedy & action.
Great effects, stellar acting by all, magic, sword fights in silk robes, amazingly choreographed fight scenes & the mystery of the Joseon woman with the gun make this a fabulous watch. Can't wait for Alienoid 2!

There are holes in the fantasy lore that are annoying. Frex, you lose your clothes when you change into a dog & this humorous idea is repeated several times. But when you change back at the most critical time, you have your clothes?
Nice for a fun, simple watch, just don't get invested in the past life.
