(Viki 10 1:30 eps)[!!CW!! Synopsis & non-spoilery review.]
"Reality" - 4 actors in Finland staying in various rented rooms. The 1st place doesn't have electricity or running water & only 1 actor knows how to cook. Although Cha did get a couple of lessons from mom beforehand.
These guys have great chemistry & many funny moments. They learn a lot about appreciating nature & conveniences.
Not fond of the "he's so handsome" narrative about Cha. That's not what the show is about. It felt like he had the responsibility for the whole show on his shoulders at times. The other actors were also very talented & each brought a unique take on situations. I felt this diminished them slightly.
Loved watching them learn to shop & cook, fish, make a fire, pitch a tent, & take a sauna. It's a very relaxing watch & now I want to go to Finland!

A Good Day to Be a Dog (2023)
(2023 - Viki, 14 1:00 eps)Cursed to be a (really cute) dog at night, the FL is totally believable as a dog. The ML's acting skills are improving. He did romantic & vulnerable (a fear of dogs) quite well. It's a cute, silly, tropey romcom, so the past life story didn't feel part of the current story. The resolution of past problems was anticlimactic.
The mystery of the curse & the push & pull of the romance with a love triangle is great, but it leads to a weak finish. There is some good comedy & the dogs are darling. There are holes in the fantasy lore that are annoying. Frex, you lose your clothes when you change into a dog & this humorous idea is repeated several times. But when you change back at the most critical time, you have your clothes?
Nice for a fun, simple watch, just don't get invested in the past life.

My ID Is Gangnam Beauty
(2018 - Viki, 16 ~1:00 eps)Similar to "True Beauty" & "The Beauty Inside," it examines society's beauty standards & whether love can overcome; how appearance can shape experiences & that can become part of a person.
Both the ML & FL have distanced themselves from people because of their appearance. The FL, even after plastic surgery, has trouble getting close to people.
A slower-paced college drama with a love triangle & a seemingly evil "friend" trying to ruin other's relationships. As the characters develop more self-confidence, a sweet romance begins. We see awful characters that judge everyone by appearance.
We never see the face of the FL when she thought she was ugly. She was judging herself that way. The family situations were also interesting & gave another viewpoint on beauty & talent.

(2019 - Netflix, 20 1:10 eps)So much to explore:
- Female empowerment: This story would have been impossible in the Joseon era. But pursuing a career over family is still a difficult path - so a relevant topic.
- Korean historians created the single longest record of a dynasty in the world. The show explored things that really happened - beheadings, rewritings, treason. Interesting history to read about.
- Catholicism & other Western ideas coming to Korea
- Western medical ideas like stitches & variolation
- Palace intrigue & a dethroned king
The acting from all the characters was on point, & there was good character development. The chemistry between the leads was wonderful. The relationship between the 2 princes is interesting. Costuming & scenery were also beautiful.
