  1. But what I find the most interesting and potentially game-changing, is that this is probably not just a move of people only using a given platform.

I am going to wager a bet a lot of long-term volunteer #Redditors are joining the #Threadiverse. :blobcathappy:

This means that there are potentially a lot of new people with the experience and willingness to perform perhaps the most demanding and the most thankless of tasks: community moderation.

    That's super-important. That excites me. 👀

  2. Hey #InfoSec, I am starting to look for a new phone and am considering #Copperhead:
    copperhead.co/android/docs/tec

Any thoughts? Is it worth its salt?

  3. @fyrfli yes, #ForkAwesome is awesome. I switched to it way back when, precisely because it does not require JS.

  4. The fact that things like Font Awesome exist (and are popular!), that not only need special markup, and a special font, but *also* JavaScript to display some simple icons is mind-boggling.

If you're into that, please at least use #ForkAwesome, which does not require the JavaScript part!

Web development is a sad joke. I should implement more logos and icons in pure #CSS, just to show what's possible.

  5. Ehh, #Ubuntu seems less and less stable with time -- more and more weird crashes and hangups. Ubuntu, you used to be cool!

Anyway, looking for a rock-solid, stable, but not ancient (yes, we do use Debian... on the servers) #GNU / #Linux distribution for non-techies.

    Suggestions welcome!

  6. So I am hearing that on Monday, June 29th (yes, in ~3 days!) the Icelandic parliament (Alþingi) will vote on decriminalizing possession of recreational drugs for personal use.

Apparently chances of the vote succeeding are slim, but if enough attention is brought to this, including internationally, the conservative parties might crack under pressure.

Spread far and wide, contact your friendly journalists, let's make some noise.

  7. @Messgorough @angristan Hey. It's been a few days.

Have you had the chance to find te sources for your very strong claims?

Many of my colleagues are using #Singal and if it had been "breached", as you have claimed, I need to make sure they are safe.

This is a serious matter to many people. Please tell me you are treating it seriously also.

    Thanks.

  14. Will We Learn From Twitter's Collapse?
    vsquare.org/will-we-learn-from

My piece got published by #VSquare.

    > Even as we watch in disbelief as #Twitter goes down in flames, we continue to put all our digital eggs in the baskets of Google Docs or Microsoft Office 365. We continue to host our services on Amazon AWS, behind CloudFlare. We continue to tie our businesses and public debate and our digital lives to Facebook. Because it’s easier that way.

  15. After several years of writer's block I finally had a longer piece published today:
    redecentralize.org/blog/2021/0

Many thanks to @redecentralize for carrying it, @tomasino, @[email protected], and Gerben for reviewing and editing it into shape.

The piece has also been published on #VSquare:

  17. @jpaul years ago a big PL telco, #Netia, had a major leak, which unfortunately also included my personal data (I used to be a customer).

They then published a page explaining that they were "hacked" and that "hackers" came into possession of personal data, and so on.

I e-mailed them, using my address that was leaked — in a domain containing word "hacker"! — and said that if they immediately change the wording to stop slandering hackers I will consider not suing the shit out of them.

    They did.

  19. Dear #InfoSec, anybody heard about #PhantomSecure? Here's their website:
    phantomsecure.com

Apparently they've been marketing some of their tools specifically to organized crime -- including making some producst available *only* to organized crime.

    Anybody knows of similar companies?

  21. Looks like #youtubedl is back on #Microsoft #Github:
    github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl

    Here's the interesting part though:
    github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl

Was this all #RIAA actually wanted? If so, why not just talk to the devs and/or create an issue?

Or perhaps they thought they could get youtube-dl completely banned, and when backlash hit them (and MSGH), they settled on this as a pretext?

    Either way, they're simply malicious.
