Will We Learn From Twitter's Collapse?
https://vsquare.org/will-we-learn-from-twitters-collapse/My piece got published by #VSquare.
> Even as we watch in disbelief as #Twitter goes down in flames, we continue to put all our digital eggs in the baskets of Google Docs or Microsoft Office 365. We continue to host our services on Amazon AWS, behind CloudFlare. We continue to tie our businesses and public debate and our digital lives to Facebook. Because it’s easier that way.

After several years of writer's block I finally had a longer piece published today:
https://redecentralize.org/blog/2021/01/18/centralization-is-a-danger-to-democracy.htmlMany thanks to @redecentralize for carrying it, @tomasino, @[email protected], and Gerben for reviewing and editing it into shape.
The piece has also been published on #VSquare:

Our friends at #VSquare just published a series of investigative reports on militarized patriotism -- i.e. literal fascism -- in Central #Europe: https://vsquare.org/

@jpaul years ago a big PL telco, #Netia, had a major leak, which unfortunately also included my personal data (I used to be a customer).
They then published a page explaining that they were "hacked" and that "hackers" came into possession of personal data, and so on.
I e-mailed them, using my address that was leaked — in a domain containing word "hacker"! — and said that if they immediately change the wording to stop slandering hackers I will consider not suing the shit out of them.
They did.

Dear #InfoSec, anybody heard about #PhantomSecure? Here's their website:
http://www.phantomsecure.comApparently they've been marketing some of their tools specifically to organized crime -- including making some producst available *only* to organized crime.
Anybody knows of similar companies?

Looks like #youtubedl is back on #Microsoft #Github:
https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dlHere's the interesting part though:
https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl/commit/1fb034d029c8b7feafe45f64e6a0808663ad315eWas this all #RIAA actually wanted? If so, why not just talk to the devs and/or create an issue?
Or perhaps they thought they could get youtube-dl completely banned, and when backlash hit them (and MSGH), they settled on this as a pretext?
Either way, they're simply malicious.

Okay, looking at other Markdown-to-HTML documentation generators.
#Docsify, for example, thinks not generating static HTML and instead parsing Markdown in JS is somehow a feature.
> docsify generates your documentation website on the fly. Unlike GitBook, it does not generate static html files. Instead, it smartly loads and parses your Markdown files and displays them as a website.
https://docsify.js.org/#/?id=what-it-isHa ha nope.

Aaaaaaand there goes #DomainFronting on #Amazon:
https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/05/amazon-blocks-domain-fronting-threatens-to-shut-down-signals-account/I remember people telling me domain fronting will solve all problems, and me feeling queasy about relying on big players so much.
Google killed it last month, Amazon is killing it now.
Also, interesting: a)> there had to be a misconfiguration in Amazon/Google infras; b). #Signal was using it apparently without Amazon/Google approval?

Some time ago I linked to the resolution project of the Icelandic parliament, to give women from the EEA who do not have access to legal abortions in their home countries (effectively, #Malta and #Poland) access to abortion in Iceland.
Well, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Czechia now have similar projects in their parliaments:
https://bezuzyteczna.pl/wpisy/szwecja-dania-islandia-norwegia-i-czechy-chca-zmienic-prawo-tak-by-dac-polkom-dostep-do-darmowej-aborcji/1355In Sweden it's proposed by a government minister:

Icelandic MP's propose a resolution to allow women from other #EEA countries to have abortions in #Iceland, if they don't have access to legal abortions at home:
https://grapevine.is/news/2020/11/03/proposal-to-allow-europeans-abortions-in-iceland/This is in the context of recent anti-abortion ruling in #Poland and resulting #WomensStrike protests.
The beauty of it is that cost of the abortions would then be charged against the European healthcare scheme account, meaning Polish government would have to pay for them.

@aral Eclips.s is fantastic. It made it possible for me to avoid CloudFlare at $OLDJOB, which sometimes meant #Greenhost was handling a *lot* of traffic coming to our sites. 💜
