  1. My coach said I could do whatever I wanted for cross-training today, so I decided it might be fun to hit the pool for some laps.

Holy smokes... I swam 325m. What possessed me? It's been, like, 10 years since I swam. It's a shame I had to go to work afterwards, 'cause I needed a lie-down. 😂 I felt like a famished zombie, and had the shakes. But my back feels better with that no impact core workout.
I'll do it again. Just not before work. 😅

I would love to say this badass song helped drive me through a tough uphill ladder run today. Alas… No. It felt like I was wading uphill through wet cement. But that’s not the song’s fault. 😅

  4. Any Suunto users out there? What in the world is this nonsense? The Suunto app has suddenly started displaying activities from 5 years ago — and 3 watches previous — in my recent activities timeline:
The activities are still there on the month views, just not loading in my recent timeline. All the stuff from the Suunto 9 and my current Race watch (with the exception of last night’s PT session) are pushed off the recent list. Strange. #suuntoapp #suunto

  5. I would love to claim that I’ve gotten so in tune with myself that I could hold such a stable zone 2 workout. The truth is, I learned how to set an intensity target for each workout (in my watch) just yesterday.
I can honestly say that I am putting in all the work I possibly can, preparing for my upcoming 50K. Running, riding, strength training, pilates and yoga. It’s all there. I think a real coach would be damned proud of me.

  6. It's inconsequential, but I had to break my 45 min. HIIT ride into two workouts after 9 minutes because I didn't trust the HR readings from my chest strap (Avg HR 88 bpm? No). Switched over to the wrist HR sensor for the remainder.
I know I got the benefit of that workout but it still bums me out when my watch doesn't capture it.

45 min HIIT ride, from GCN Training (if anyone's interested): youtube.com/watch?v=4dG-gUOieW

Anyway, second workout for the day is done. #cycling #training #CrossTraining

  7. If you’re ever in the mood to isolate weaknesses in your legs, you might try single-leg cycling. Give each leg enough time to fatigue. Feel the burn! 😅

Right leg: jerkier motion with weakness in hamstring and glutes.

Left leg: smooth motion, with weakness in quads and hip flexor.

I’m guessing that compensatory swing from posterior to anterior chain is the source of that wobble that clears up if I focus on driving my knees while running. Hm. #cycling #crosstraining #running

  8. My first easy 3.5 mile run today was garbage (as you’d expect) but my hamstring feels decent and I’m good to go for 2x30 single-leg cycling after dinner. I’m just going to trust the process. #running #cycling #crosstraining

  9. Our body’s ability to adapt to new demand so quickly blows my mind.

I was able to ignore my legs and focus on my breathing throughout. That’s a big improvement. Quick.

Ps. I love the workout videos from GCN Training: m.youtube.com/c/gcntraining They’re all terrific, so far.

  10. For anyone interested in the course for my upcoming run: those of us running the 22K will run the first half of this 50K course. In this video, that's roughly from 2:15 to the aid station at 8:20. It's a beautiful, rugged Front Range course.

  11. I didn't think it was possible to think more highly of Aesha, but the most recent episode of Below Deck Down Under (S2 E6 "All Wrong") reveals her to be not just smart, funny and super likable but fierce, too. Major points for the producers, too. 💪
*Edited to credit the Captain with swift, decisive action as well.

  12. Went #hiking with my brother and a friend. We did a bit out out-and-back before catching Chavez Trail back. What a beautiful place, particularly for being so close to a freeway and civilization. In no time at all, you’re surrounded by the calming sounds of Beaver Brook and quiet solitude. Along our 7 mi. hike, we also saw a darling young Albert’s squirrel, noshing on a tasty morsel of some sort. The vertical demand and slight exposure are worth the effort.

  13. One of the things I’ve discovered about myself while #trailrunning is that I’m not a fan of not knowing where I’m going. There are limits to my go-with-the-flow. I’m a big fan of course awareness, these days.
So I scouted a descent route, today, to see how much of it is runnable (by me, right now). Steep, chossy sections, deadfall across the trail, rocks, lots of roots all chipped away at it. Great views though!

And my hamstring held up well. 👍

  19. I don't know that they have a presence on Mastodon but I'm so impressed with Run Steep Get High's live coverage of the 2023 Hardrock 100. From course broadcasting to interesting commentary, they've done a terrific job.

iRunFar has also done an incredible job of gathering information and sending in still images from remote locations on the course.

They both deserve to take a bow. I'm really grateful for the hard work of everyone involved. ❤️
