I _have_ seen C-dramas that don't get that snow and winters are cold. But overall C-drama land seem to grok those things far better than Hollywood and a lot of Western media. This is shot indoors, yet all but one actors* go to great length to look cold and miserable. Bai Cai is rubbing her hands because she frose her ass off building that little snow figure.

Fun fact: the buddha figurine, originally from the Swat valley in Pakistan, found at Helgö, Sweden, is one of the more famous items travelling from east to west on the Silk Roads. It ended up in Sweden in the 8thC. But there were things travelling from west to east - noteably amber, that the Tang dynasty imported from the Baltics (and Burma). The gem was, among other things, called Buddha's Blood. Note that the bloodstones here are orange, not red.

I can relate. This was me and Alea the Black Cat when I was supposed to put on her cone again (vet ordered me to allow her cone-less time for cleaning). The little lady weighs 3.7kg, but her wrath is _mighty_. I felt extremely vindicated when she also put the fear of God* in the nurse who removed her stitches. I'm eagerly awaiting the in-story explanation for this tiger, but so far it isn't half as scary as Alea was.

I _could_ crack a joke about this envoy's all markers for Eeeevul, like his dark clothes, his exessive billowing of C-drama land's patented Bad To The Bone smoke, and his pet vulture. But...
IRL politicians (that are normal good-enough people) have to handle Known Horrible Entities all the time. And they have to pretend these KHEs are decent, despite all evidence to the contrary. So this trope is not as unlikely as it seems.

According to MyDramaList this is _not_ an Ed Guo drama. I'm... a bit shocked, but it is true that C-drama land often produces visually stunning pieces, so I shouldn't be surprised. So far, and I'm only 4+ minutes in, I've seen so many stunning props and awesome costumes my brain screeching 😅. I'll return tomorrow, when I can start earlier to make time for long comments.

Ok, the Lost National Treasure was too adrenaline inducing (still looks good - I may schedule afternoon watches for it), so here we go again... I'll actually try what iQiyi thinks I want to watch this time. According to the trailer it has a blue orc* and big junks**, and it's hard to go wrong with that!

I found a new trope that makes me nope out. Usually I keep negative criticism to myself - I see no reason to focus on stuff that tend to pop up in Western fiction too
BUT
This is both bad storytelling - it's an illogical move that achieves so little no one with a brain should chose it - and _unfresh_. It's a majestic overstep no romance should survive - no matter how just desert the ml get.

I live in IKEA land (Sweden), and while the furniture megalodon has its advantages, it sucks at lamp design - in my eyes. Unfortunately they also set the tone for every affordable fixture in this land. I have rarely encountered a lamp I liked - maybe due to me falling in love with palace lanterns when I was ~4yrs. So excuse me while froth at the mouth for a while because to the left we have The Mother Of All Palace Lanterns! Aaaaaaaah!!!

Every production has a few signature visuals. Palette choice is a standard, though few dramas go as far as Moonlight Mystique*, differences in costume decoration another. Here's one of Fate Chooses You's; bold camera angles. I wouldn't be surprised if this drama is based on a manhua and it's an inheritance from the comics format. Here's our 2nd couple feeling small while big and justified things are happening upstairs.

Colours play a large role in Fate Choses You, and that means...

*starts pondering different ways a DIY version would project light*
*briefly wonders how the lamp is related to palace lanterns*
*forces herself back on track*
...that the production put a lot of thought in how it uses colours. Note the yellow/brown/green/blue palette here. Bright, yet neither childish nor garish. A+!

A modern-day slacker ends up in a xianxia world. Arthur Chen’s magnetic charm and Wang Yilu’s comedy chops made this drama fun, even if it's not my cup of tea.
