The immortals of this village are _clearly_ 1970s hippies! They even use macramé! In brown + orange - that cursed colour combination that _should have died_ somewhere around...
*cough!*
I mean, everyone have different tastes, and macramé is having a revival, and all that... Also, since they _are_ immortals they kind of have a licence to put their craft on life support.

TIL the term Dutch Angle - it's when you shoot a shot tilting the camera/picture, making the horisontal line askew. I have a hard time _not_ going "Dutch Angle! Dutch Angle! Dutch Angle!" like a toddler with a new word, because Burning Flames is full of them. The composition is good when a situation gets out of controll, because it's a clear illustration of instability. Here it also means both characters are visible - foreshortening FTW!

I just realised that, since I walk with a cane, immortal Gui Mu is one of the few characters I can cosplay with minor tweaks (yes, I consider gender bending a minor tweak). If I picked say Spiderman or Storm I'd add a detail to tell a story - say a plaster cast. As for Gui Mu I'd only need to make the costume and abuse my hair. I'm weirdly tempted...

Of course C-drama land has the levelled up version of the Darth Vader choke-hold!

Speaking of detailing... I guess the decorations on Zhazha's vest thingy are laser cut - the edges are a bit angular and sharp. Thank you laser cutter, I'd say! Looks awesome! Those squiggles are also a prime example of C-drama details that makes me go
"Haven't I seen those patterns somewhere closer? On a runestone or so?"
C-drama is of course Not A Reliable Source, but every time it happens it's like hitting a sore tooth.

Ah! A rare costume change! Since Burning Flames leans into cartoon storytelling the characters keep their costume the same way superheroes stick to their spandex design. It's also a rare glimpse of the quality of the costume work; note the detailing on Bai Cai's wrist guards. The reason Gou's hanfu is so much simpler is probably the detailed armour he normally wears. I thought he wore brocade first, but alas - his top layer is probably heat printed 🥲

CW: Teef (Burning Flames)
Even by the standards of C-drama land this is _slightly_ OTT. I truly enjoy it. But the actors who's gotten the Eeeevul roles seem to have the time of their lives! You can almost see them giggling internally as they slosh on the slime.
(*Looks at the cane* That one's really pretty! I wonder if I should DIY..

Naaah! I actually want something on the Good Side.) -

I really like this composition! The shot is only a few seconds long, but does A Lot to establish that the situation is both dangerous and calm. Gou and the bigfoot monster look pretty friendly as they're checking each other out. But the gate and gateposts are all filmed askew. This gives us a visual hint that the situation is off-balance, and leads our eyes from BFM to Gou. Those pointy things help reinforce the threat.

Finally! The blue orc, aka Bigfoot Monster*! And my first thought is
"Who the _heck_ put those leather pieces on him???"
I mean; a had a hard time putting a cone on Alea the Black Cat and she's just 9 jin. This fellow is about 10.000 times more, and sports the same fierce rage!
(*C-drama land makes the rules - I don't)

It's been a long time since I commented on an awesome candelabra*, but I wonder if that one isn't trying too hard. It's like it's waving from the background
"Oooooh! Look at meee! I have wavy arms and hold candles! Ooooooh!"
Nevertheless it's glorious! I want one for my collection - and that panther candlehomder too!
(*they're all awesome candelabras, Brent)

I _have_ seen C-dramas that don't get that snow and winters are cold. But overall C-drama land seem to grok those things far better than Hollywood and a lot of Western media. This is shot indoors, yet all but one actors* go to great length to look cold and miserable. Bai Cai is rubbing her hands because she frose her ass off building that little snow figure.
(*the odd one out may have a plot reason not to)

Fun fact: the buddha figurine, originally from the Swat valley in Pakistan, found at Helgö, Sweden, is one of the more famous items travelling from east to west on the Silk Roads. It ended up in Sweden in the 8thC. But there were things travelling from west to east - noteably amber, that the Tang dynasty imported from the Baltics (and Burma). The gem was, among other things, called Buddha's Blood. Note that the bloodstones here are orange, not red.
