  1. Amazing views of the Artemis II launch filmed from NASA's WB-57 high altitude aircraft

    Full duration on YouTube: youtu.be/pa-dMk2VnUg

  2. You may have seen pictures, but have you ever seen video of a Gigantic Jet from space?

Astronaut Jeanette Epps captured this incredible sequence on July 20th, 2024 as part of the DTU/ESA Thor-Davis experiment.

    [WARNING: Video contains flashing lights!]

  3. This is what it would look like to fly over the Martian North Pole aboard the ESA Mars Express orbiter.

This sequence of 117 images was captured by the VMC camera on June 14th, 2019 over the course of 3 hours and is played a 1200x speed.

  4. This photo from the Perseverance rover captured in early March, may be my favorite Mars image from this year.

It shows Mars' smaller moon Deimos over the hills of the Nili Planum region in the dark skies before dawn. 🔭

  5. Tomorrow I'll be giving a short talk at the session at about my photogrammetry reconstruction of the glacier collapse.
I'm looking forward to catch up on the latest research about this event.

See here for my previous post on this topic: fosstodon.org/@stim3on/1146042

  6. I just realized I never shared pictures of the red sprites, that I caught last year on August 14th.

They occured over a large thunderstorm complex in the Franche-Comté region in France, about 400 km from my location.

  7. On July 3rd, astronaut Nichole Ayers photographed a rare Gigantic jet from the ISS. These upward directed electrical discharges extend 90-100 km high into the atmosphere.

I processed this image from the RAW file, adjusting the white balance, contrast and noise reduction.

  8. If you're fascinated by extreme weather and lightning photography this video is a MUST WATCH!

So many amazing shots of lightning storms, blue jets and red sprites from Australia, with great narration and editing.

  9. Since the capture time of the image wasn't published, I tried matching the Earth terminator and cloud patterns.
This area above the pacific ocean seems like a good match.
The approximate capture is Mar 7, 2:00 UTC.

Note that we are seeing the Earth "upside down" here and the North pole is slightly tilted towards us.

  10. Since the lander uses very wide angle fisheye lenses, I was able to make a partial 360° panorama from the image.
This gives a slightly better sense of scale and direction.

  11. Another one bites the (Moon)dust!

This is Intuitive Machines' lander that once again toppled over after trying to land on Mons Mouton near the lunar south pole.

The picture had lots of detail hidden in the shadows which I brought out in processing.

  12. This Gigantic Jet TLE was captured from the International Space Station by
astronaut Matthew Dominick on July 1st while flying above Indonesia.
I re-processed the image from the raw file.

  13. The new video by looks back at the last couple of flights from and explores how the rotor accident may have happened.

  14. Just two sols later, the rover encountered an issue with its AutoNAV software which likely got confused by the abundance of large boulders.
It drove around rather chaotically before coming to a stop.

Here is a panorama with all the wheel tracks:

also just made an episode about this, using a few of my processed images.
If you want an explanation about what happened, give the video a watch:

  15. The new episode offers a likely (non biological) explanation of the circular features that Perseverance recently spotted.

  16. If you want to learn more about this flight, look no further than this video which I also uses my processed videos: youtu.be/GIABf416dBQ

  17. Awesome new episode about the record breaking Flight 59!
I may be biased though, because I processed the images for this one :)

  18. New video about the Perseverance Rover arriving at the Margin Carbonate Unit. These videos always do a great job in comparing Martian and Terrestrial geology!
You may also spot a few of my recently processed panoramas in the video 😎

  19. This video about MEMS IMUs by @breakingtaps is amazing!
Stunning electron microscope images and a really well done hands on explanation of how these intricate devices work!
(Amazing SEM image of an MPU6050 shown in the video!)
