I’ve recently finished reading, The Axeman’s Jazz by Julie Smith.

It’s rare to come across multiple novels with the same title, when I saw this one and read the blurb, I just had to give it a go.

The premise is a retelling of the story about the Axeman of New Orleans as previously told by Ray Celestin in his excellent novel, the original Axeman’s Jazz.

What attracted me to buying it was the idea of setting the story in modern times.

So, I bought it, read it, and was disappointed by it.

In better hands it could still be a good story, but I’m afraid Julie Smith’s story never really takes off.
