Even the most die-hard #Bitcoin enthusiast would probably agree with you. Which isn’t to say the idea is flawed. On #Nostr, there’s an idea I really like called ‘ #Lightning/ #Zaps’. These are microtransactions on the blockchain. They take place without proof, are collected and then recorded on the blockchain as a single large commit.
This happens in real time, so to speak, and is designed to support #artists, #journalists and content creators. 22 Zaps are worth about 0.01 cents. If you hear a song you like, you can ‘like’ it and the artist gets a tiny bit of money. I like this idea.
This is also a problem in the #Federation. As long as paradise hasn’t yet dawned, we have to earn money. That’s impossible here. With Zaps, it’s possible, albeit only a very small amount.

Though the challenge it poses are very high considering how people manage their online accounts at the moment. But I don't believe it makes it *better* than federation in activityPub's spirit. It's just a different topology. Interconnectivity between all these networks is what we need in order to really answers needs of the general populion IMHO.

@jae I am also missing this a lot in the fediverse, it is so powerful to be able to have more than one server for the same profile, that now I don't even know how to live without it in other platforms

it would be good for the fediverse because quite often you can't see post from other people because your server is not federating with their server, with such network splits having several servers at the same time is even more needed!

there is already #Nostr solving that problem, but to be honest the community around is always talking about bitcoin, crypto, blockchain and other crazy stuff

Amazing stuff! this is the future.

He might be right that Mastodon does not scale. But saying that ATProto is solving data portability when in practice 99% of users are on Bluesky - it's portability in theory. You can port your data but if Bluesky bans you, you're done.

Maybe the future is Nostr then.

Social media is still evolving and I like that there are at least three interesting competing standards being developed right now.
