If you match the Tom Thumb font of the emulator menu in ZenZX and the ZX Opal default font, that integrates visually quite well.

I think one of the most interesting features of ZX Opal is not visual or interactive, but the kind of engineering that allows for different memory models and tailoring of modules that's enabled by the custom toolchain.
Sure, you can order bits by hand too, but good engineering gets you this flexibility and control over resource usage and memory footprint in a very memory-constrained platform.

It's been in the works for about a year in its current form, not continuously, but something I do on weekends every other month. In fact I've been tinkering with the #ZXGUI toolkit for a couple of years. Not because it's too difficult, but because I really enjoy the design process more than I enjoy its maintenance once it becomes real. You can see old drafts of the GUI toolkit under #zxgui. ZX Opal is the name of the OS, and #ZXGUI is the name of the toolkit and the GUI desktop.
Once it's released I would hope others to help maintain it.
