#WordWeavers 8 Nov: Has another author ever inspired you to change anything about your writing?

I've learned a couple of things not to do, but most of my stuff is on voice from character (1st person, or near 1st), but story structure is my big struggle. Most of that comes from Classics, Euripides or Shakespeare, from having performed in them a lot as an actor. But plays are waaay shorter than novels.

@ashteranic @AmyDentata About what to do with computers, I asked how I could make writing more fluid than using my Smith-Corona electric typewriter? Text editors and formatting and the Internet made the drudgery go away. Sadly, I don't buy reams of paper or typewriter ribbons anymore. Put many people out of business, I suppose.

Whereas someone with just a marketing background at some corp blog will try to reword every single sentence?

"Sunday school" has a certain connotation, especially when it has to do with an on-demand weekend meeting with a teacher when you don't want to. In a society that doesn't have religious schooling outside of secular schooling, it isn't the appropriate word, however.

It's a glorious day that starts with a new Frances Hardinge book: UNRAVELLER. The way she world-builds is like few other authors I know: effortless, as if she doesn't much mind whether you know what's going on (although she makes sure you can figure it out.) It's fantasy & reminds me of NEVERMOOR, but it's #youngadult instead of #middlegrade. I'm in love again.
