It's been a rainy day (finally!). So I got to fix my daughters wifi on her iMac running Debian. Fixed my sound card on my iMac running #Debian. Assembled a rapsberry pi with a 16 mm telephoto lens that has been laying around for way too long. Had my son play a game learning about global warming on a #winXP computer. AND reinstalled my backup server with....you guessed it. Debian. It's been a good day. 🥳 #linux

Latest update on this saga: a dead GPU forced upgrade plans ahead of schedule. No problem at all as this GTX 960 slotted in nicely and runs like a dream! Pushed Unreal Tournament 2004 to 300-400FPS at max settings last night.
Also cloned my Windows 10 drive which I use to review games on my 4:3 #Steam Curator page to an SSD and configured a reliable dual boot setup. Drive letters were removed from each opposite OS to avoid activating CHKDSK on every boot.

Yesterday I did some more work on the Principia for Windows XP builds. libcurl is now built with mbedtls meaning it supports the modern security stack required by the community site, and an up-to-date CA store is also bundled with the game.
I also made an installer just like with the official Windows builds that will register a protocol handler. Preferably you would use a backported browser such as Supermium when browsing the community site.
Made a release on the repo with the current state of the builds. Disclaimers about a lot of dialogs being unimplemented in the Dear Imgui backend still apply, but I hope it will be of interest regardless:

I wanted to play #NeoPhyte1997 but had difficulties running it on #Wine. Then apparently there is a way to get decent GPU acceleration on #Win98 via #SoftGPU and look and behold. I am able to enjoy screen autofit, 1080p that normally you only get when virtualizing #WinXp VMs #Retro #RetroComputing

Yes! Ich konnte mir für meine Retro-Sammlung jetzt auch eine eigene Bonus-CD der GameStar 03/05 sichern. Bisschen zerkratzt, aber 2026 nimmt man ja, was man bekommen kann. Soweit ich weiß, war das hier der letzte physische Release des "Dirty Little Helper '98", bevor das Programm im Jahr danach endgültig eingestellt wurde.

After installing multiple community versions of #Windows XP with no luck, then the HDD started giving me partition issues.
Thankfully I had an old Hiren's Boot CD from 15+ years ago. It saved the day as always & I was able to get the HDD situated.
I then installed an original #WinXP SP3 iso & installed the Asus drivers afterwards & it worked like magic.
It seriously took ALL day but I'm happy to see this #Asus #EeePC working like new. Even the battery is still good. 👍

Das #winzigweich Replacer Addon hat jetzt eine an #WinXP angelehnte Einstellungs-UI (falls es auf einer Seite zu sehr nerven sollte)

Not surprising that bots and scrapers make up 90% of my hits and nearly 95% of my data used, nor is it surprising to see Windows is the most-used OS.
But what did surprise me where some of the Windows versions. Sure, #WinXP still has its purpose for legacy software/hardware combos, but who's using #WindowsCE?!
Also, you can't see it in the screenshot, but I also have hits from devices running Android Kitkat and Jellybean. With the IOS side going back to IOS6.

Anyone having a working #QEMU config for booting an old Windows XP?
It appears that "pc-q35-2.10" is no longer available. And with "pc-q35-10.1" it fails to boot with an error stating that the system isn't fully ACPI compliant.
Edit: Same for "pc-q35-4.2" which is the oldest one I can select.

After adding real function to the main menu or Start menu on my blog a couple of days ago, I continued updating the design yesterday evening. I added status bars to the windows to improve both the functionality and the nostalgic factor of the aesthetics at the same time.
Fun fact: the menu was implemented without JS purely with HTML + CSS.
I also overcame the Android & Safari sizing annoyances by using dynamic viewport height (dvh) instead of viewport height (vh) in the CSS.
