I'm running a Wilderness First Aid class (in person) in the Conejo Valley on November 2 (Sun) and November 23rd (Sun) 8am to 5pm both days if anyone local is interested. Prepping to teach another wilderness first aid class. AED simulator (CPR/AED training required, even though there are very few AEDs in the wilderness, LOL). WFA reference text. Tourniquet. Plastic snakes. #wildernessfirstaid

Oof, my son (air medic) had to hoist a badly critical patient from EXACTLY the spot I tell my Wilderness First Aid students they could set up a tent and offer up first aid every weekend to crashing mountain bikers. 😬 #wildernessfirstaid #SearchAndRescue #SAR

Today I get to host a workshop on Wilderness First Aid to around 100 Scout Leaders travelling to Norway later in the year. I'm running batches of around 15 people at a time, with other workshops too. If I'm able to speak by the end it'll be pretty surprising!

Practicing what you need to do for altitude sickness is amusing when TWO students have gotten altitude sickness or dealt with that emergency in the exact place which you have in your scenario. (Palm Springs Tram). Always great to hear how they managed the situation (or did not). #FirstAid #WildernessFirstAid

Solanum crispum, commonly called Chilean potato vine, is native to #Chile & #Peru . 
Not edible but leaves are medicinal. Mashed leaves can be applied to cuts, wounds, inflammations or skin problems. #WildernessFirstAid

Last weekend I had my first of two full day assessments to become a REC3 Trainer.
After teaching for 11 hours on my feet to a kayaking club, I passed!
Officially I'm now a REC1 Trainer. One more assessment to go, but no firm date yet. A couple of more courses coming up to assist on and gain experience.

Interesting area to add for covering in my #WildernessFirstAid class (which I am not covering yet), is how to handle people who are overcome with overwhelming, debilitating anxiety when they are cut off from 24/7 instant communications (ie. no smartphone/cell phone access in remote areas/wilderness). Taught a class this weekend and several participants have had to deal with people with those issues. #ModernLife #FirstAid
