Nee, haben die nicht. Die haben vorangegangene Forschung bestätigt. Stichwort #WhoFi.

Wie schon beim WhoFi-Paper, lese ich nichts davon, dass das in unterschiedlichen Umgebungen funktioniert hätte. (Die WhoFi-Leute hatten zwar was von umgebungsstabil erzählt, das m.E. aber nicht im Paper gezeigt.)

D.h., Stand der Forschung ist m.E.: wenn du freiwillig in einer kontrollierten Umgebung eine (ggf. umfangreiche) Messreihe von dir Aufnehmen lässt, gehst du Gefahr, dass jemand ein neuronales Netz auf dich trainiert, das dich dann in genau dieser Umgebung wiedererkennen kann. Das ist m.E. erstmal weder überraschend noch neu.

WhoFi is a system developed at the La Sapienza University in Rome:

»It tracks people by interpreting how their presence disrupts Wi‑Fi patterns, offering a potential alternative to conventional #biometric methods. […] WhoFi does not rely on cameras or physical contact. It needs only an existing Wi‑Fi network to sense human presence and movement.

The technology can operate in darkness, through walls, and even around obstacles, making it a discreet option compared to video #surveillance systems.«

The preprint of the study contains an interesting, but broken off remark at the end: »This work was supported by the “Smart unmannEd AeRial vehiCles for Human l«, which obviously refers to SEARCHER – Smart unmannEd AeRial vehiCles for Human likE monitoRing.

#SEARCHER is a #drone project by the #Italian Ministry of Defense. Its purpose is defined as »This Technological Research proposes to develop an innovative, effective, and efficient system, called SEARCHER, capable of providing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (#UAVs) with basic intelligence enabling them to autonomously search for and recognize any entity.«

Just so you know why that drone seems so interested in "filming" one dull building wall after another.

They used consumer grade wifi routers to uniquely identify individuals moving through a space regardless of their clothing with 95% accuracy.

While I see this a very cool from a technological perspective, I see vast privacy implications by this type of technology.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to lead a life where you are not constantly surveilled and tracked...
