Today, our (@freelyflyingbee@Twitter and mine) first PhD student Brad Ohlinger successfully defended his thesis. He worked on costs and gains in honey bee foraging, and how to use the waggle dance to study these. He has won multiple awards for his talks, so it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We will miss him sorely, but we are also looking forward to read about his new adventures.

A good first day of #AireCon starting with getting here safely on a snowy day!
We got to play #Everdell at last which we loved, it seemed very slow at first but quickly accelerated. The teen had all the resources coming in but I got the most points 😃 Definitely one we want to play again.

Honeybees are far from being mere robots. Their waggle dance requires social learning. Complex behaviours are seldom entirely innate.

Gibt es eigentlich noch mehr, die sich über die aktuellen Preise rund um #brettspiele wundern? Ich meine, 4 Tage #Spiel 22 für nur 70,- fand ich ja schon atemberaubend. Aber was da dann teilweise für relative normale Spiele verlangt wurde, ist für mich - trotz Inflation und Energiekrise - nicht mehr nachvollziehbar.
Beispielsweise #WaggleDance (Kartenspiel mit Würfeln) 40,-, #OldLondonBridge 50,- und jetzt #SleepingGods 150,-
